Except crime has been falling (perception may be something else since that never is affected by whether the figures are going up or down, mostly because of the effect of the media.)

When those two things actually increase, they do show it.
In one of the previous posts I made, there is a link tht shows 93% of cocaine that arrive in the USA is from Mexico. Just 7% can be attributed to the Caribbean. The DR is not a major transhipment point for cocaine heading to Europe.

How much of that 7% are Dominicans putting up their noses or cooking up and smoking? The DR has a major problem with crack cocaine.

The issue is that you are only considering the US and possibly Canada but there is a whole world out there of other countries.
And there are a lot of other drugs on the streets as well. Lots of pills of various types.
Drugs and lotteries and gambling ensure that many stay poor.

That’s what goes through the DR. Over 90% of it actually ends up in the USA. Not quite like surgar which is near 100%, but still high. Take the USA out of the equation and the DR drug trade practically collapses over night. Same with sugar, without the USA the DR would hardly have sugar cane plantations.
The main culprit is that most peopke don’t know what the data actually means. There can be 1,000 murders and it goes down to 900, that is a drop of 10%. That’s a very remarkable drop, in fact something to be proud.
Many Joes have no clue what that means because they will focus on what they see and hear. To them the drop in murders must be a lie since they perceive it to be the same. Somehow it doesn’t registers in their minds that if murders drop 10% from a 1,000; that means 900 murders are still occuring. The many Joes with perceive murders to decrease after many consecutive drops, except that when they think murders are beginning to fall (based on seeing and hearing), in reality it has been falling for a while.
Most people are bad at math, more so in the DR where the average person can’t do simple math without a calculator.
I think the real issue here is that many people simply ignore that most of the drugs that passes through the DR is cocaine and most head to the USA. Eliminate the demand for that and the DR drug trade basically collapses. The USA is not anly the destination for most of that, it’s also the source for much of the drug money that makes it to the DR.
The next topic is probably weapons,where most illegal weapons in the DR come from? Hm, it must be Chile, yep that’s it.
