Nothing of significance to report over the last several days, some low magnitude rumblings (3.0 - 3.3) N and NE of the eastern portion of the DR over the last 24 hours. A very active seismic area.

It bears repeating, if any of these were of sufficient type and strength to produce Tsumani waves those originating the furthest way would reach the DR in a bout 60 minutes and the closest in as little as 15 minutes after the event. N, NE, E, SE coasts would see the brunt of the waves and SW coast to a lessor extent.

Thought about how you would get up and away from the coast on short notice if need be?

Cdn. You copy and paste data from a website. what is the purpose of this. I read 30 news sources daily, most do. Maybe you have your own measurement apparatus and I overlooked that.

After a 6.0 magnitude quake NNW of Puerto Rico last night around 11:35 pm, the picture below is a summary of the subsequent quakes and aftershocks over the past 9 or so hours.

1 x large initial quake
3 x moderate quakes
multiple aftershocks

The area is still rumbling and the risk of significant shaking could continue for the next day or two.

Just now is 4:24 am Jan 07

The house did a little shaking. Thinking about our Puerto Rican neighbors getting slammed again.

Wonder what remote parts of the RD felt it ?

Regards,

PJT

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck Puerto Rico before dawn on Tuesday, the largest in a series of quakes that have struck the U.S. territory in recent days and caused heavy damage in some areas.

A tsunami alert was initially issued for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, but later canceled.

The Electric Power Authority reported an island-wide power outage.

Downgraded to 6.4. This seems to be the strongest earthquake in the region in the past 5 years (if USGS database search is not mistaken) and 4 times stronger than the previous strongest event back in September in PR which was 6.0 scale (if the online Richter energy calculator is correct)
