Economy Minister Juan Ariel Jimenez announced a gradual reopening of the tourism industry starting 1 July 2020. He said the government would be publishing the health guidelines and safety protocols over the weekend. Restaurants outside of hotels will not be reopening, but resorts are being given the green light with restrictions. Bars, discos and casinos are not allowed to reopen yet.

Jimenez says the opening is to take advantage of the all-inclusive resort model that prevails in the country. The low-rise sprawled out resorts allow visitors to vacation, keeping physical distancing and there is less contact with the community, reducing the possibility of spread. He observed that the Punta Cana International Airport will be operating with the terminal that has natural ventilation to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus.

There will be limitations to the reopening...

The detail guidelines were released a couple days ago (June 25th): http://www.jac.gob.do/images/Slider/Protocolo.pdf

Sorry i did not clarify it, I am talking about the famous top secret protocols for reopening the tourism not the aviation ones... ;)

When I read the guidelines from that link I understood that upon arrival there will be temperature checks for passengers. If a temperature shows over 38, then they'll do rapid testing, to confirm if in fact the person is positive for COVID-19. Did I miss something? I did not see anything requiring travelers to bring a health certificate.

Agreed, that was my understanding too. Health certificate requirement comes from another thread.

The health certificate requirement is mentioned by the Economy Minister in this original post. Is contradicting to the other document. So will they test at arrival even if you are not showing a high temperature? 🤷‍♀️

The kiddos and I are getting tested a couple of days before flying and I will bring our test results. I am trying to avoid spending an extra 4 hours at the airport upon arrival because they are unsure. 😇

Hopefully, the first DR1 member who flies to DR will report back and clarify.

From the article:

"The low-rise sprawled out resorts allow visitors to vacation, keeping physical distancing and there is less contact with the community, reducing the possibility of spread."
