Electricity thieves are a huge part of the problem
dV8 , stories have been posted in the News section of DR1 that entire shopping malls have been caught steeling electricity for years!

As for getting upgraded from one level of service to the next on the north coast that happens much more slowly than a snails pace. I have been trying to do that for years while being on a C line.

How long will it take the government to pay up this time?
With the current extended blackouts being caused by a failure by the government to pay the power generation companies, does anyone have any insight if and when the government will pay up so the normal miserable level of service can be restored?

How you get screwed using power from an inverter/charger
One possible reason your bill doubled is that if you use an inverter charger system to provide you electricity during blackouts, the power that you get back from that system is very inefficient. The power supplied by the inverter reflects about 40% wasted energy in charging and inverting. With your power requirements staying the same with our without street power, you will be paying more the longer the power is off because of the energy wasted to charge the batteries and then convert it back to AC power increases the total number of billable kWh you use. If you go over 700 kWh in a month, your bill goes way up since each kWh is charged at the highest rate.

I don't have an inverter, AC, or any of that jazz! I just paid a factura that I asked them to print off for me 2 weeks ago for about half the amount of this bill... I'm thinking maybe they didn't apply that amount. I don't know. But I'm annoyed. I'll be bringing my receipt/ last bill to them and asking what's up. It's due on the 30th, so I have some time.

I had some friends come to visit a few weeks ago and they decided to stay a few days in a resort just to be able to say that they did. When I called to check on them and ask if they were enjoying themselves they complained about not having face cloths and it took hours to get towels and the shelfs were broke and noone ever came to fix them. And all I could think of was REALLY you are complaining about THAT!!! Get over it that is NOTHING compared to what you may experience living here enjoy the beautiful weather and relax!!!!

Perhaps someone else tapped into your meter?
If you didn't go over that 700 kWh magic number, then something like that happened or it was a billing error.
I went and looked at the metre today and there didn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary. I'm really hoping it's a billing error and that I didn't just jump in my usage or something. Nothing out of the ordinary has been done. Although it has been hot lately so the fans have been on a little more... but not that much... I'll post when I find out. Thanks for the info.
