Legally, Edenorte is, or at least used to be, liable for that. But good luck getting them to pay.
Protecom was set up for such issues.

A few years back a neighbor of ours lost everything due to electricity spikes... The whole street encouraged him to speak with Edenorte but he refused as he had better things to do (the man has his own business and works like 80 hours a week...)... We felt so bad for him... Just asking him to protect his house properly for future spikes...

Now that we have had 24/7 electricity here on the north coast, below is the EDENORTE "grid maintenance schedule" for the foreseeable future.

SOSU101 out in Perla Marina again 10:52 !!! What is going on! I've already had our big fridge blow even with all the Surge/Spike Suppression I have in the house electrical system !

Olly
My understanding is that refrigerators are damaged here from voltage drops NOT surges therefore surge protectors don't help protect them,a voltage stabilizer is needed.

Power off on CABT102 and the main highway near kite beach about 7:15 PM . Report number is 169328. They are working on it. No idea what the problem is.

I suspect the problem is continued incompetence.

Any bets the power won't go out for the next 7 days on the North Coast?
I'll give 4 to 1 odds.

It took 3 hours , from 7:15 until 10:15 PM for Edenorte to get power back on for thousands of people last night. They really are getting worse.
Will the privatization of the EDE's make it better or worse.....

The voltage protectors I am always mentioning will cut the power if the voltage spikes OR drops more than a volt or two. I've had mine for so long they have all turned yellow but still protect everything. I can post pictures of them again if you like.

I don't understand how burning tires in the street improves the situation, but I guess people feel better for a few minutes.

True, but it's cultural as well. Happens in Haiti a lot. It's a bit more discomforting when someone is wearing said tire.
That was a common tactic of Winnie Mandela who ran a band of thugs who brought people to her house to be tortured and killed

CAB -101 has been out since around noon. No idea when it's coming back, but usually if it's out, then it comes back by 6
