And a horse consumed less gasoline than cars when cars started to appear. Why aren’t cities full of horses (and horse manure) today? I have yet to see a traffic jam full of horses, despite one could probably get faster to their destination by simple having a horse walk between the cars stuck in traffic.

There had to exist people back then that made the arguments in favor of widespread usage of the horses instead of the new cars.

The point is this has been debated before. Eventually, new technology tends to dominate and make obsolete what once some were so sure the old way of doing things will continue to be the preferred.

Where are the horses?
I see donkey’s .. .. WtF do I know I’m still amazed seeing 300 cattle going down the road staying in their lane and turning on road full of cars in cordial manner….how the heck they train that!

Did Henry Ford get ridiculous amounts of money from the government to put the horse out of business, or did he figure it out all by himself?

Henry Ford perfected a system that allowed production of a vehicle that a income earner at the time could afford to buy. Financial institutions, industry and government work together to drive the economic system. They are symbiotic. Henry Ford did not drive the horse out of business. Who thinks a city manager responsible for maintaining sanitation in the average city in the United States of America did not support increased cars and decreased horses.

If NASA decided to get back into the business of putting manned vehicles back into space, who do you think would win?

Employees and suppliers win in the promotion of electric cars using your logic and line of reasoning.

My point if through policy the government had decided to promote electric cars then so be it. I am not saying it is right. But usually if you fight the law in the Domincan Republic the law is going to give you a beatdown (call you embassy for help). That is unless their are extenuating circumstances. 💰

Without the government he would had never sold as many cars. There is a reason the USA has one of the world’s highest dependency on cars and the way it has been built since the 20th century is directly related to government intervention. There was a time when typical American towns were walkable from end to end.

The government wanted to support the car industry and encourage the car-centric model that exist today almost everywhere in that country.

Bloomberg News announced the Chinese EV industry has made a major advance in vehicle charging technology. They now have an EV that’s capable of going 400 kms/240 miles on a five minute charge. Five minutes is the average time it takes to fill the tank on a gasoline engined car. That’s a significant advance for EV technology. The potential for sales in the DR and other countries is getting better. The detractors now are tariffs and the elimination of the government subsidy when you purchase an EV.

This is the future ! Regardless if some of us like it or not. All this critics remind me of the "professionals" defending regular Photo cameras against the Digital ones 30 years ago. 30 years already....omg i'm getting old

Depending on the size/weight of the vehicle, I would need a decent amount of power to achieve that, and a decent charging infrastructure to provide that amount of power in that amount of time.

Is there currently any decent network of charging stations in the DR? I would assume at least in the capital they must have some but outside?
There is one in Bavaro near the new hospital. I have never seen a car charging there and I pass ilt every day. And none have the fast charging ones. So it takes hours. EV's are not for the DR regardless of what you hear.................

That’s just Evergo (this Dominican company is now in several other countries too.)

Then there are others, but none have a network as extensive as Evergo.

About 2 weeks ago the electrolinera they have in Bávaro (first of it’s kind in Latin America) hosted its first electric vehicles fair. I guess none of the e past in Bávaro noticed the fair since no one mention it. The electrolinera is in a quite visible place.

Only if the EV cars are a lot cheaper and more economical to drive.
