Leading Dominican businessman Fernando Capellán of Grupo M, a major free zone industry group, said on the Esta Noche con Mariasela TV program on 8 June 2021 that the company is prepared to fire without severance benefits any employee who refuses to be vaccinated. Capellán understands that the measure is legal because the Labor Code and the Constitution give prevalence to the collective good over individual beliefs.

Local business people, academics, lawyers and government officers at all levels have been discussing whether Dominicans can be obligated to get vaccinated for Covid-19.
