Hi there, Does anyone know of a driving instructor in Santo Domingo who can teach an English speaking expat to drive who doesn't speak Spanish?

Having a car is great in SD, not to be tied to public transportation and taxis. When I lived off the Nuñez, I could have driven to Boca Chica every weekend... If i had had a car.

That's the last place a newbie should be turned loose to drive.
Heck just get in and drive with no license like 60% of Dominicans

Whether it's 60 or 40 really doesn't matter when the qualifications to obtain a license include having a face and being able to scribble two or three amorphous letters for a signature.
Actually you must pass a written test, eye exam and a joke of a driving test

Yes, if you include moto riders, taxi & bus drivers - that is my estimate
Motos, agree. But taxi and bus drivers NO..........................They are more likely to have a license than the average person.

I would spend some time in a taxi before driving in Santo Domingo. Or at least get out of the busy area into a slower barrio to practice.

There are no lanes, no signal lights, no rules.
