Fuel Tanks do not explode. Nothing like in the movies. A little "Puff" and a lot of Fire.
Propane Gas is a diferent Story.

The mind runs wild while we wait to hear the how and why of occurrences such as this. I remember a past thread about a proposal to build a LPG storage and distribution facility here. Makes me shiver to think about learning that such a plan will go ahead.

Obviously we need more info before we can actually understand this event. But the tendency to employ people to work with dangerous goods in this country without adequate training, testing, and ongoing follow-up proficiency testing means we will be seeing more of this in the future I'm afraid.

Hopefully this lead to an ordinance and strict observance that would prohibit anything manufacturing to be in the center of a town or city.
that is what is mindblowing to me. there's no oversight in many cases. This type of factory should've been on the outskirts.

Maybe more a translation question ?.
and propane is shipped and Stored in its Liquid state, therefore it is considered " Fuel" not a Gas as u stated.
and yes it would most certainly explode , as it instantly goes from a Liquid to a Gas and is ignited, and then multiplies in volume many hudreds of times instantly.
Even water does that when it goes to Steam .. 600- 1

not sure what semantics has to do with this tragedy ?

What about natural gas? Does that make you shiver as well?

The president flew in this morning to view the damage.

I was saddened to hear this morning that a good friend of mine who has a welding business was the one who was doing the welding at the explosion site.
He was welding next to his truck with a generator on a trailer. The truck is totally destroyed, and there is no sign of him. I'm sure he be added to the fatalities list shortly.
I was near there this morning and the entire area around there looks like a battlefield.

What was your friend’s name? Leo is worried about a friend of his who’s a welder.

This was sent to him a few minutes ago.

His name is Papito. My neighbor just told me she doesn't think it's him.

I've been told by a couple of neighbors the actual death toll is 20. I'm not sure why there would be a discrepancy, but if that's true, it should be updated by tomorrow's news websites.

I suspect the neighbors source may be adding missing and dead together.

The explosion made the Global national news in Canada tonight. They did not give a cause but confirmed at least 10 dead, several injured and some still missing. I will repost if they ever give a confirmed cause.

Juat saw that the fires have started up again strong. Even the reporters were made to get out of the area. So sad. I also read that some bodies can't be identified yet. The vet there was able to evacuate all the animals and they were not harmed but 1 employee is missing.

Makes all other problems one might have in life right now seem very insignificant in comparions what these 100's of familes will go thru.

Exactly what I said to Mr AE. They woke and expected a normal day, and nothing will ever be the same again. You just never know……

The owner of the ferreteria not only lost his ferreteria, but also lost his wife, child, and father-in-law.

What is really sad is they reported they found more bodies, but don't know if it is 2 or 3. What a mess.
