Alma de Samaná Golf & Residences is going to be the DR’s first black-owned golf resort.

I find it interesting the golf course will be 18 holes. That would be a first in the Samsná Peninsula since the previous one had 9 holes. This might also become the first DR golf course owned by a woman.

The person behind all of this is a ex-successful African American lawyer in Atlanta, Georgia. Now she’s retired and apparently developing this golf resort is her next plan. This is looking at 15-20 years for completion and an investment of $582 million.

Wish her the best, because nice golf courses are beautiful.
I wonder why NALS called her "ex-successful"?
Is that a foreboding?

Will it actually will be Dominican Republic's first 'black-owned' golf resort or just first Black American owned ? Aren't some golf courses that are Dominican owned?

Welcome bouquets for wealthy black investors but the thorns for the Haitians.

Diana is a real estate attorney and this is a 'black' investment group called Tempat Sala LLC formed by Zen Business Inc. and they will be seeking investors for this Alma de Semana resort as soon as they are 'compliant' and can take the company public. Proposed prices for properties here start at $500,000.
I believe there is a Tempat Sala hotel and apartment complex in Las Terrenas.

I don't think Diana's net worth is near $600 million, the current cost of the proposed initial plans and it is a 20-year development plan, so hopefully she finds honest investors. If they actually do now own the 2000 acres that's a healthy start. Maybe this is a result of the success of Playa Grande golf resort in Rio San Juan.

Just a sobering dose of sarcasim - We have all seen the expression of how to make a million dollars in DR - come with two million.

She’s retired, as in no longer doing what she did. Also, the fact she is a lawyer (not practicing) would imply everything she does has much planning.

This project idea seem to not be something out of the sky. In fact, there are more videos about this project of people that are or will be involved in making it real.

For example:

This is the main person behind it all:

There are more videos at the YouTube website.

I have yet to see further details on this, but she may just be the owner of this.

Well, I guess in 15 to 20 years we will know if it worked out.

Don't hold your breath.
Casa de Campo wasn’t built in one day. If anything, it was supposed to be a very small thing with very limited vacation homes for Charles Bluhdorn and a handful of his friends. Look at Casa de Campo now. Yes, most people here were considerably younger when Casa de Campo started, many others not even born yet.

I have no idea. I don't golf. I do know that Leo from Argentina is building a golf course behind my development along with restaurants, tennis and pickle ball courts, Clubhouse and over 100 villas/condo living areas. He projected completion in several years. But then Leo don't mess around.

Yes and she's no spring chicken
To realize this dream may extend beyond her years of mobility.
She is also looking for investors so she must not have enough much money to pull it off, but that's to be expected.
Also Vin Diesel has Dominican partners for Bergatin- I assume she's going to need local partners too or face hurddles she didn't see coming.

I really wonder why black-owned is that important. Are de rest of the clubs white-owned? Or Chinaman-owned?
The publication name is "Black Enterprise". Ethnic media outlets are typically cheerleaders for their own kind, rather than humanity at large. A better story for "Black Enterprise" would have been how a retired lawyer from Atlanta managed to get into international real estate development. Rather than show off, she can educate. THAT'S something to be proud of.

Don't need electricity while golfing. Just good old gasoline powered lawn mowers and a well aimed Titleist.

Maybe in a country with crumbling infrastructure a golf course is the panacea.

Of course the expensive villas built on the golf course will require noisy diesel generators puffing black smoke, to keep their margarita blenders whirring.

I'm more concerned that she can't Pronounce the name correctly.

Am I eating an over fished orange lad / lass from Alaska?

And while I agree that a better elec grid would help most - thats the peeps in power responsiblity - instead they fill their pockets from gringo tourism & investment and not helping the locals - happens the world over. (See Biden Crime familia)

Good Luck - I don't golf - Now if they set up a TT race for motos on Rt 133. I'd be down for that. Have the start / finish line at the toll booth - use Coson circle as the turn around point. Man that would be fantastic. Just import crazy Brits & Irish.

Something like this

Ya had me at Halo!

So, you want an outsider to invest money in the electric system, drinking water, etc? The money for these resorts does not come from the DR, these are outside investors. I am all for better electricity, water, etc., but those issues belong to the government not outside investors.

Seems some of her clients are/were sports stars, entertainment people, etc...so that may be where some of the investing money is coming from.

If they hired private companies instead of using corrupt EDE's that would be a good idea.
Most countries have governments control natural resources like water, so we are perpetually screwed on that here in the lost north coast.

Private prisons are a huge thing in my home country because of the failed drug war. That just requires companies to fill that void here.
The aim is to increase crime to fill the prisons in that situation.

Electricity should not belong to the government. Look where that has gotten us.

Agree that private enterprise is like a golf course is not related, except they use a lot of water...

I don’t know Windeguy.
With the experience in the Netherlands ( I live in Belgium now for a long time so I can compare)I would say a couple of things should stay in governments hands:

Mail service.
Health insurances.
Water, electrics.

Here in the DR. I have NO mail service . None by the government.

I have water a couple days a week from the government water company. Others have not had water on the north coast for months or years.

The EDE's are the problem with power. Companies would force people to pay, so the rates would go down and theft would be stopped.

I have private health insurance that I pay for. Anyone that has the money will do so
There is free SENASA for all of us citizens, but I would not rely on it and use public hospitals

You can see how well NONE of those things work here. You cannot compare the UE or USA to what happens here.
