There's no way anyone could make money in a little restaurant like that paying $10K/mo USD.
If it is true it confirms my suspicion that some out of touch politicians in Santo Domingo is behind the project. Nobody seemed to ask the local Dominicans or the local expat business people.

are there any restaurants now operating in the Fisherman's Village? someone told me the rent was $10,000 a month for the smallest building
A Dominican I talked to suggested the 10,000 was to pay for the "Punto" or something. Or one years lease. 10,000 dollars is of course impossible as a monthly lease and that even the smallest building.

When the government removed the old buildings on Playa Grande in Las Galeras, they offered all the spaces to former tenants who are locals. Seems like it is an unofficial forever lease where they pay no rent, only utilities. Maybe they are doing something similar in Las Terrenas, letting them lease for 10,000 pesos. Just a guess.

It's hard to believe there are no restaurants that have opened in the new, fantastic Fisherman's Village in Las Terrenas.

Why could this be?

Because it has all been planned and executed behind a desk in Santo Domingo.

there isn't even a "Para Alquilar 829-xxx-xxxx" sign posted

I suppose someone who is interested has to write their contact info on the sand, haha

Phew! I thought I was going to see a post by someone saying “it burn down again.” Maybe I’m getting ahead of the curve.

I don’t wish it to burn down again, just that the “Fisherman’s Village” has developed a “tradition” of going up in smoke again and again. Will this “tradition“ be ended on this occasion?

They were rented when they were destroyed, maybe those folks will get a chance to assume their contract again.

It makes me wonder if the same lack of businesses will also happen on Sosua Beach once those plazas are done.
They were also planned from behind a desk in Santo Trafficjam. Time will tell.

I think whoever came up with the rent projections lives in Santo Domingo where there is no shortage of wealth and fine dining. They probably forecasted the ridiculous $10,000 USD a month rent. Not one restaurant owner in Las Terrenas can carry that rent load - esp in the slower months of tourism. This is still t-shirt and flip-flop destination.

Hopefully the new Fisherman's Village will survive the massive social unrest that LT is currently mired in due to the illegal eviction of the Paulino family.
They are a poor family of fishermen primarily. There looked to be at least 20 people housed on the family compound.
They had been on their property on Las Ballenas beach over 50 years until late last week.
That is when authorities moved in with heavy equipment and leveled their housing compound. They then lit it on fire.
The residents of LT are furious at this action and have been fighting back by revolting all over town. Multiple fires are burning at multiple locations currently.

I saw some posts in FB in the Amigos de Las Terrenas group but I went to FB after a long time and didnt have context, thank you for that.
I saw that the Army was called in and the government had promised to build them a new home so are the strikes/tire burnings still going on ?

Are they or will it be like once done to a poor Dominican that won some sport competition abroad?

The government promised to build his/her family a new house. In social media a photo circulated some time later of an old house that had a frontal facade built by the government, ent. The house is of one floor, but the facade makes it look two.

I laughed thinking it was one more example of photoshop, except it isn’t.

The other possibility is building them a shack with zinc roof. You know, the type of house the politics giving the green light for the new house to be built they would never live in. At least nowadays they make sure the floor is of cement rather than dirt.

From what I hear even Etno is struggling. And that place has some reasonable money behind it, Sylvain Riedhl is a director and his family own Billini Hotel in the Zona Colonial. I must admit every time I go to LT it's busy Saturday and maybe Friday nights and the rest of the time it's dead.

I always thought LT would suffer when Air France pulled its flights from DR. Never seems to have had the same money there since that happened.
