Fishing Success with the Marlin Chaser

Just a follow up to this thread. We ended up fishing a full day with the marlin Chaser out of Rio San Juan and had a good experience. I would recommend them. We caught a Wahoo and a Dorado (April 24, 2010) (15-20 pounds) and several smaller ones.

Looking for a boat to take us to Isla Mona reasonably...

My Dad and I are going to be in Samana the week of May 8th and would love to check out Mona. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced means to get there from the DR? (Sail boat is FINE, thinking 2~ days with camping on the island overnight) Motor boat's fine too. Cheap is good, working GPS? Better. :)

You might want to post your message on the East Coast Board. They are a lot closer to the Mona Island. Also, the island is part of Puerto Rico and as such you will probably need passports to disembark.

I have a large group of friends (dominicans, europeans, and US) here in santiago who are also planning a day of fishing. I've done this MANY times out of florida and the east coast of US and I never heard of a boat that keeps the catch. I will be boycotting Capocean and feel its my duty to tell alll who ask me about this ridiculous policy. Don't believe the BS he shoveling.

The boat keeping the fish is just a way of increasing their profit. Plain old greed. Its not policy anywhere. As far as catch and release goes: 1. it has a much higher mortality than people think. Many of these exausted fish do not recover from the stress of the fight or are eaten by predators. 2. The free swimming ocean fish targeted by a few boats in the DR are not in the least endangered or depleted.
Dont let these greedy guys get away with keeping the fish. You paid for the boat, caught the fish and get to keep them, take them home and enjoy. Thats what its all about.
