Whats the deal with the black flies everywhere. I am on the North Coast and these beasts are endless.

Is this seasonal? An anomoly? Business as usual? Is it wind direction?

God forbid you are trying to eat a sandwhich or have a refresco around these carnivorous beats.

They’re all over DR, from my experience. It’s why Dominicans mop and clean endlessly. They’re particularly bad when we have seafood, and I’ve been told by Dominicans that if you serve seafood and there are no flies, don’t eat it because it’s bad seafood

I've seen babies covered in flies to the point where they
are crawling in their mouths. Disgusting, yes. Shocking
to see it in the campo, no.

Why are they here now and not other times of the year. I have been here since 12/2017 and have never seen anything like this.

I recommend you visit a few neighborhoods near the fincas.
La Playita in Moca is a fine example. FLIES FLIES FLIES FLIES.

I haven't seen the swarms that you're talking about. Must be a reason: beach, pasture, trash?

I have not seen swarms- just a consistent never ending supply of flies. They come in 5s and 6s. Kill off those and 5 or 6 more take their place.

Was sitting outside yesterday afternoon in the backyard and once again, a never ending cloud of houseflies. Better them than mosquitoes I suppose.
