BA might code share with another airline, but they do not fly directly to the DR.

Air Europa have a special starting in June. US$390 plus taxes from Santo Domingo to Madrid and Venice. The time you add in the taxes you are look at around US$700. Madrid has lots of flight options to the UK. EasyJet, BA, AirComet etc.

As others have mentioned Thomson who are now merged with First Choice do one ways from the DR to England.
Also my friend works for Thomas Cook and was working in the DR for a few months last year, she told me I can book a one way flight with them, as long as there are free seats, just go to the Thomas Cook office in Puerto Plata.

What is the airline to London from SD that is a BA codeshare?
As my previous response seems to have been deleted (someone probably took the helpful suggestions as being an attack on another poster here :ermm: :ermm: :eek:gre:) I will reply by simply stating the airline concerned is none other than ................

:surprised AMERICAN AIRLINES!! :surprised ~ Grahame.

Firstchoice fly from Gatwick to POP and PUJ. It goes Theri cheapest rate is 73 pounds plus tax for a return trip. [

Wow,

When was the last time you saw or got a flight being sold at this price?
Up until a year or two ago you could get a ?99 deal, very occasionally. Now I am lucky to get anything around ?250 - ?300, especially with the latest set of taxes and levies imposed.

Hey, have been on the Thomson website, but can't seem to find any flights, even looked in December. However, the drop down list of outward bound one way flights did come up[ with POP. Have had friends call Thomson back in the UK and the bimbos at the end of the line say that Thomson don't do one way tickets from here. So i need to speak to the Thomson office here, does anyone have a contact number for Thomson office here in POP.
Please, so want to go home.

One way flights to the UK

Thomson do indeed advertise one way flights to and from the DR - they however only sell very few of these and anyone who has managed to get one in advance through their website has done very well. :cheeky: I have just been testing this and put in every flight date between 1st May and 1st August, both ways and everything is coming up as no flights available.

The reality is that the tour companies would much rather sell a seat as a part of a package holiday or a return journey and will hold onto available seats to try and sell them as such.

One way tickets are sold by Thomas Cook, Thomson and First Choice from their offices in Puerto Plata for flights going back to the UK if they are available - i.e gone out empty or someone gone home on a different flight.
The last one I bought was ?225 from Thomas Cook.

As les1 has mentioned a number of people use the "standby" method of waiting at the airport, luggage packed, in the hope that seats will be made available by people not turning up. This does happen. My friend works at the airport and was selling standby seats in January for approx ?250.

I dont think there is a surefire best way of getting a ticket home - it just takes a lot of calling around and being in the right place at the right time.

Please accept my apologies if you know all this already and please feel free to correct me if anything is incorrect.

I am aware of 2 flights being booked one way from DR to UK for this May via the Thomson website. One from Punta Cana to LGW on 8th May and the other is from POP to Manchester on 14th May (this was the ?176 flight including taxes, meal and baggage cost).

I bought one way flights from Manchester to POP for myself (with residencia) and our stepson (without residencia) for 31st October last with Thomas Cook. They were ?157.50 each.

These flights definitely do exist but I think it is just a question of timing.

Hi Whirleybird,

Oh I am sure that they exist but it is not very often. I am wondering if your October flights were aided by the changeover from the Summer to the Winter flying schedules? Do you think residencia makes a difference?

Rio

Hi Rio,

You are absolutely right about the October flights being aided by the Summer to Winter changes to their flying schedule. My very cheap flights I got with Thomas Cook back in October were on the last flight of the summer season from Manchester, after 31st October the flight day switched from Wednesday to Saturday so there were two big advantages. Firstly, it was cheap as the aeroplane was basically only coming out to DR to collect the holiday people who had arrived 1 and 2 weeks previously as, although they were at that time selling 10 and 17 day holidays, it was not really promoted anywhere and, secondly, the flight was less than 1/3rd full - luxury to have 3 seats each to relax on...

Residencia was not an issue or even indeed a question asked anywhere. I came through the "returning Dominicans" aisle and Christopher, our stepson, bought his tourist card with the other tourists on the flight.

.

Hi,

My birthday is on 1st November and I have been in the DR to celebrate it for the last three years and my holiday durations have always been very peculiar because of this. I have had 11, 13 and 17 night holidays and 2 of the 3 have been going out with one airline and coming back with another - on one return ticket!!

Wow, the luxury of having 3 seats

I just called Thomson and they have completely changed what I was told a few weeks ago!
Aparently if you have been in the DR for over 4 weeks, they cant sell you a one way ticket! Not even if you go to their office in PP. They said you have to go with someone like BA.
Dont know whats going on, am slightly freaking out now!!!

So called BA. You can get a flight from Puerto Plata to NYC with jetblue, then another flight from there to Heahrow with BA.

It worked for me

I am not advocating you do this but it worked for me in Nov last year.

I was unable to get a oneway flight Punta Cana to london Gatwick as I was told non of the UK charter companies were allowed (terms of the flight rights) The very helpful man at the check in desk PC gave me a number of one of the supervisors a Dutch guy cant remember the name.

I called him and explained I needed to travel but not right away I could wait a few days. He told me to try and book a return ticket online with the return date I wanted and not to use the outward flight. as the ticket is electronic all I needed to do was produce a print out of the confirmation. here when I caught the return leg of the flight

It worked and the cost was 270 GBP way cheaper than any of the one way flights on the other carriers and best of all it was direct to Gatwick non stop......

It worked then but maybe they are wise to this now......
