United States’ Florida state Republican representative, Maria Elvira Salazar questioned US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on the US State Department maintaining an official note that cautions Afro-Americans that in recent months travelers to the Dominican Republic have reported being delayed, detained or subject to heightened questioning at ports of entry and in other encounters with immigration officials based on their skin color.

During her turn to participate in the 23 March 2023 US State Department Foreign Policy Priorities and Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Request in Congress, Salazar asked the US Secretary of State if he believed the Dominican government was racist. He responded, “no”, while adding that there are concerns about the treatment of Haitian migrants.

The legislator says she has asked the State Department for proof of the racist allegations in the travel...

To be fair, they have a point. Anyone who looks Haitian is having a very rough time at the moment. I was talking to an American Haitian this last weekend and he said he absolutely hates it here, he feels constantly threatened and has been stopped many times by the police.

When are they going to leave it alone?

The Dominican Republic has the right to do what it likes to the people within its borders.
The United States has the right to issue travel warnings.

How does a US Congress person not know that the State Department of her country cannot issue a travel ban on people leave the United States of America?
That can only be done by an act of Congress.

I know plenty of "Afro-Americans" (most of them prefer to be called American) who absolutely love it here. The north coast is full of them.
None of this nonsense would have happened under the previous administration.

The title of the thread refers to a travel alert, not a travel ban.

Please keep the difference in mind while posting.

It would be fantastic if they issued these same alerts/ warnings to international travelers arriving stateside. Tourist attractions like the heart of NYC, DC and San Francisco have become dangerous places to visit day or night.

From post #1
"Blinken argued the US State Department had issued an alert, not a travel ban."

The Secretary of State had to correct the representative from Florida after she referred to a "travel ban".
Watch the testimony presented in the other thread on this subject if you don't believe me.

Was just writing the same thing. Her response to Blinken was that an "alert" has the same effect as a "ban" in terms of fomenting fear, and implies that the D.R. government is racist. As always, it's best to watch it and draw one's own conclusions. This link starts with the Dominican part of the hearing:

If the DR embraced their woke open borders policy and allowed Haitians to enter the country illegally without the fear of immediate deportation...

Please raise your hand if you think this "travel alert" would have been announced/ put in place by the US government.
