And meanwhile, Bill C-10 was rammed through parliament last night. Crap. It passed.

Canada is one step closer to being a full blown communist country. Time to relocate to DR for good

Not passed in the Senate. Only passed in the House. The Senate’s snail paced review will probably kill the bill because of the upcoming fall election. Then it’s back to square one.

The Canadian Association of Smut Lovers is particularly upset. Limiting Canadian Internet users to Canadian porn is an egregious act in their estimation! 🤣🤣

You did hit the nail on the head. All my loose ends are tied up and I have a potential buyer for my place. My plan is to rent for six months in the DR and return to Canada and rent for the June-November period and make the transition to living in the DR full time after that. I’m hoping the application process for Pensioner Residency gets easier once Covid settles down.

As crazy as DR politics are, they are no crazier than Canadian politics.

It is quite humorous that Google Twitter and You Tube are worried about restricting free speech - since they are doing in every second.

But maybe we need a thread about Leaving Canada for Good instead of how to get back in.
Not many East Germans wanted to go back once they crossed the Berlin Wall

Being a Canadian is a mixed blessing Chico. We are no better or worse than many other developed countries. Our political pendulum swings right and left and our current crop of political leaders are a sorry lot. More interested in their fat pensions than the people they are supposed to represent.

My concern is their lack of vision and the obscene amount of taxpayer money they waste with no consideration for the long term effect of their spending.

On a positive note, I’ve been treated well by our socialized medical system. I just had a heart operation done at no cost that would have cost anywhere from $80 to $120k in the US. My pension, CPP, and OAP provide me with the funds necessary to meet and actually exceed the requirements of DR pensioner residency.

The DR attraction for me is the climate. Much easier as I age. If Canada and the US had been divided laterally instead of horizontally, Key West would be my retirement home. The thought of being able to leave Canada and drive down every winter is pretty sweet. Living full time in the DR is the next best thing and a lot cheaper than Key West.

I will always have links to Canada regardless of where I live. It is what it is and we are who we are.

Should have said divided vertically. It’s early here and the coffee hasn’t eliminated the effects of the demon rum I had last night. Lol!

There are places in the Keys that are relatively cheap, not Key West itself. To me that just seems a long way to get out. I would enjoy it only if I had a boat.
How long did it take to book your heart operation ? I assume it was a bypass ?

Your sorry lot is indeed sorry but it is far exceeded by the sorry governance in your Southern neighbor currently.

No. Heart ablation therapy to eliminate my A-Fib. A-fib started two years ago. I could live with that. It was the fricken side effects of the beta blockers I couldn’t live with. Vertigo, nausea, sore joints, etc. Prevented me from riding my motorcycle, and other activities.

Was assessed last Fall and got into the cardiac lab to get the operation done six weeks ago. Would have gotten in quicker but Covid variant outbreaks delayed the procedure.

They ran a balloon filled with a cryogenic gas through catheters into the upper chamber in my heart creating frostbite. Once the frostbite was gone, the nerves healed and my pulse rate messaging is back to normal. No more A-fib and no more pills. They pumped fentanyl into me to keep me happy while I watched the whole operation on video monitors in the lab. If it comes back they can use a different procedure. They can burn the chamber using electricity.

A bypass operation in the States would cost a lot more. My father has two bypass operations, one at age 52 and one at age 80 at no cost.

My living full time in the DR is predicated on no more heart problems.

Is it still a mandatory hotel stay for anyone entering Canada?
My Dominican in-laws have visas, both doses of COVID vaccine, and we would like them to visit before it’s -25C.

Maybe that’s still just a hoop dream.

As a business traveler, I find it dirty, dated, no decent dining options, helter skelter layout, narrow terminal walkways and waiting lounges that crowd people flying to large cities with toothless morons flying to Martinsburg WVA and some gates that are carpeted so bubba's tabacco chew can't be cleaned creating a hazmat situation. I would rather fly in and out of Dar es Salaam's Julius Nyerere airport x 10
Bwahaha... having lived in TZ and endured Dar's airport too many times, I now fear I NEVER want to go to Charlotte. ever! :)

Unless they have permanent residency they cannot visit Canada as tourists.

Starting 11:59 pm ET on July 5, 2021: Exemptions for fully vaccinated travellers who meet specific conditions

You may qualify for certain exemptions to quarantine and testing requirements if you:

Those who meet the requirements may be exempt from:

  • quarantine
  • hotel stopover (for air travellers)
  • day-8 testing requirement
  • Travel restrictions on who can enter Canada remain in place.

Foreign nationals (including U.S. citizens) coming to Canada for non-essential reasons will be turned away at the border.

Find out if you can enter Canada

    Determine if you’re fully vaccinated

To be considered fully vaccinated, you must:
    • be eligible to enter Canada
    • have received the full series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine or a combination of accepted vaccines
    • have received your last dose at least 14 days prior to entering Canada
    • upload your proof of vaccination in ArriveCAN

      Accepted vaccines:
    • Pfizer (Comirnaty, tozinameran, BNT162b2)
    • Moderna (mRNA-1273)

    • Vector Institute (EpiVacCorona)
    • Other

The list of accepted vaccines may expand in the future.

If you received your vaccines outside Canada, it’s still accepted but proof of vaccination must be uploaded digitally in ArriveCAN and must only be in French or English, or certified translation into French or English.

We are in Step 3

The criteria for Step 3 is at least 70% of the 18+ population vaccinated with dose 1, along with low case counts and declining COVID-19 hospitalizations. In Step 3, all sectors will transition to using communicable disease prevention guidance from WorkSafeBC.

Mask guidance

Masks are recommended in indoor public places for all people 12 and older who are not yet fully vaccinated. The mask mandate order under the Emergency Program Act was lifted July 1.
  • You're fully vaccinated 14 days after dose 2
  • Masks are optional for children aged 2 to 12
  • Children under 2 should not wear masks
  • Proof of vaccination does not need to be requested by service providers
  • Some people may choose to continue to wear a mask after they're fully vaccinated and that's okay

PHO guidance

Activities

New things you can do

Personal gatherings
  • Return to normal for indoor and outdoor personal gatherings
  • Sleepovers
Organized gatherings
Travel
BusinessesRestaurants, bars, pubs and nightclubs
Casinos

Businesses will transition from a COVID-19 Safety Plan to a communicable disease plan. Some safety measures will remain, like physical barriers.

What isn’t mentioned is the requirement for returning Canadians to have a PCR negative test 72 hours before they enter Canada, even if they have their two shots. I’m still planning to head to the DR in September. I hope this requirement is eliminated by then.

Am about to test the process today returning to Canada from Colombia. Seemed to complete the Arrive-Canada form successfully so am hopeful. The form to enter Colombia has just as many glitches as the one to enter the DR,, however it has to be successfully completed or you will not be able to board your airplane. Took about 2 hours and 30 tries to complete.
