Punta Espada

It is golf porn, but yes 395 USD excl. caddie etc. Twilight 295... I only played it once. Not worth it, still better than Teeth of the Dog (now same price). When it was a free round in Fedogolf I played Teeth of the Dog 5-6 times. Overrated IMHO. For me by far the best courses when it comes to value, service etc. is Iberorostar and Hard Rock comes second. Playa Grande was a dream and I played +50 rounds there, but now closed for us average Joes. Played Corales once and it also a dream course, but yes 395 USD

Some say 10 - 13 in the PC/Bavaro area, however I only know 11 if you count White Sands as a resort course.

I've been fortunate over the years to have enjoyed 9 of the 11 listed below while living in the DR. Hard Rock is definitely the most challenging for any handicap (including professionals), with Punta Espada a close second depending on what tees you play.
I would have to agree with HDR that The Teeth of the Dog is overrated, and I would not even consider playing it again before at least 6 of the courses listed below.

Agree.. But White Sands, is it even open? And really Cocotal...over CORALES?!? Then, there are so many good golf courses on the south and east coast. As I mentioned La Estancia, then Guavaberry and PGA Ocean's 4. Great courses. North coast not so many options . Agree that Hard Rock is a tough course, but free drinks so... :)

I heard the other day that W.S. is open again, however the lack of maintenance is as it has always been. The listing of courses is from a P. Cana online article, not my rating on the quality or difficulty of the courses. Like I said I would play 6 of them every week if I won the lottery and lived in PC/Bavaro.
Like you, I played La Estancia GC 3 or 4 times before they closed for several years. Not sure how the course is after it re opened?

Many but only one is in the world's top 100 courses. Guess which one that is?

Hint: The purpose of this thread. lol

I think Punta Espada was the first golf course outside the USA that was in the PGA Tours.

Now, Teeth of the Dog in Casa de Campo is also in the top 100 courses, but that is the number 1 course in all of Central America and the Caribbean. Incredible that since it was created in the 1970's plenty of new golf courses have followed in the region and none beats it. Even Punta Espada which is the second best golf course in the region didn't beat Teeth of the Dog. lol

They used to have the Teeth of the Dog in the Microsoft golf simulator for the PC. You can virtually practice before playing the real thing.

The DR needs to create a golf course in the south where the weather is semi-desert and there can be cactuses in the scenery like in Arizona. I think that's the setting the DR has that still doesn't have a golf course.

While we are on golf the PGA Tour Event in Punta Cana is coming up in March. If you have never been it is a real treat for golf fans. And hard to beat for your $10 admission. You can also go see practice rounds or hang around the driving range.

RE: Teeth of the Dog

I played with Pete Dye once and afterwards at lunch we asked him which course he was most proud of.... Teeth of the Dog

Why?
Because it created over 100 jobs in a country that needs them.

Great answer.
He went on later to build more courses there

Agree! Too bad that Champions Tour left Punta Espada and there you got a free greenfee + some goodies if you were a volunteer

My friend did it and they gave him a free round and other goodies a few years ago. I guess they stopped the free round this year.... .........

That's the course we'll get in Pedernales.

We were there in November. White Sands was not opened.

Punta Blanca is MUCH improved - we really enjoyed it and it was not on our playlist in the past.

We missed playing at Barcelo The Lakes - not a good deal anymore for Fedo members

The best value is hard rock hands down . The prettiest is Punta Espada, Most improved is Punta blanca. actually every course is a great deal compared to the USA.
I played cow pastures in the USA here I feel like I'm a 1 percenter with Donald trump.. I played them all many times each..
