I'm with Puerto Plata Electricidad (PPE), and their rates are a little higher than Edenorte, and their service maybe is a bit better. They cover my neighborhood (La Estancia) and the one by the Coca Cola plant, as well as a portion if not all of the Torre Alta area here in Puerto Plata. They may cover more but I'm not aware of that.

I thought San Pedro was EDEEste?

They, EDEEste, have a small interest in CESPM.

The largest shareholder is InterEnergy Holdings Inc, which also controls CEP-M, CESB, CESPM. Additionally, InterEnergy
has interests in various other projects, EGE Haina and in the up and coming Cabo Rojo area in Pedernales.

It was when I lived there. As I mentioned in the other thread, it was almost 5 years ago. And they didn't suck like they do now.

CESPM along with AES corporation formed ENADOM to use natural gas to provide electricity to the San Pedro area. Slowly, but surely, the government controlled power distributors are being replaced and or are partnering with the private sector, with lots of financing from outside the country.

Did not know they served La Estancia. Adding Las Caobas to the list. Heard nothing but good from them. It was principally built to supply Playa Dorada as far as I know.

It's really interesting to learn about PPE's services and coverage. Having an alternative to Edenorte is fantastic, especially if they offer better reliability. Do they have any particular perks when it comes to how quickly they respond to outages or their customer service?

Anyone with PPE please correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I have understood, they are not an alternative for EDE, but rather the only provider in the area they serve. So it's not like you can choose, as EDE does not have service where PPE does. Same as with other private operators in the country.

That's my understanding also. That's why utilities are allowed to be a monopoly.

How do the privatized electric companies come to fruition? It would seem to be a ton of capital required.

Imagine if the whole of the electricity sector was privatized.
Do we really think they would fork out billions of pesos for a modern network to sell electricity to a few thousand houses in cabarete ?
Or would they limit their services to SD, Santiago and Punta Cana ? Selling electricity to millions and to hell with the rest of the country.

Maybe, but if there is demand, there will be supply. That supply might be expensive, but there will be supply.

I can only dream of that reality at the moment. Everyone paying what they should. It isn't like Edenorte is doing a good job in Cabarete.
