Thousands of Haitians poured into the re-opened bi-national markets in Pedernales, Dajabón and Jimaní, all along the border. People came on foot and by vehicles, to buy and sell, just like always. The binational markets reopened on Wednesday, 14 July 2021 after the shutdown for security reasons after the murder of Haitian President Jovenel Moise on 7 July.

For the most part, Haitians bring used clothing received by donations to exchange for food and other essentials. As reported, health protocols at all three markets were in place and enforced by authorities.
