Frontier and Spirit announce they will be merging their operations soon. This merge would create the fifth largest airline in the United States. Both Frontier and Spirit serve the Dominican Republic. Frontier has gained thousands of followers because it connects many cities that before had not had direct flights. Both Frontier and Spirit are low-cost carriers that charge passengers for bringing carry-ons and checked luggage.

Right now, Frontier is offering low one-way fares on specific dates:Orlando (MCO) to Punta Cana (PUJ) US$77Orlando (MCO) to Santo Domingo (SDQ) US$75Miami (MIA) to Punta Cana (PUJ) US$71Chicago (ORD) to Punta Cana (PUJ) US$82Philadelphia (PHL) to PUJ US$77St. Louis, Missouri (STL) to PUJ US$96Cleveland, OH (CLE) to PUJ US$96Atlanta, Georgia (ATL) to PUJ US$96Baltimore, MD (BWI) to PUJ...

Two ghetto airlines merge. This will eliminate the bargain basement prices that both airlines fought over. I expect that Friritier will likely be raising their prices, still to be a giant Greyhound Bus type company only to be a few bucks cheaper than the more comfortable airlines.

They are not ghetto but rather low-cost airlines. You SOUND ghetto saying that. They are made for low price, bookbag carrying, short flight customers. This will (in the US) give them an advantage over the "Big 4 " airlines who are also trying very hard to get these customers i.e ( Jet Blue's Basic Economy) so they will be able
to better compete. This is all IF the gvt allows them to merge which will take many months to see... so slow down

You're not my sobrina, are you? She Iikes TJ Maxx where I'd rather go and find the same garment on the clearance rack at Macys at a lower price. There's no such thing as something for nothing, and combined, they'll have to increase prices to pay the shareholders. Unlike the full service airlines, that make a majority of profit on their premium seats and services, the bargain They've been competing just fine and with this move the low prices will increase. Both airlines have brought their costs down by wringing every aspect of operations to reduce costs. Short of violating current safety and commercial standards, there are no more expense savings to be had. At their base in FLL, the Spirit flight (arrived on time) that I was on had to wait another 45 minutes standing in the hall before getting into CBP as other airline's flights (arriving after us) were led by the airport staff ahead of us because of Spirit's bargain agreement with the port. The why is info from a former Spirit employee. For cheap seats in the US I use Southwest. How you can check 2 bags para nada amazes me. If you're patient, you're not paying extra.

At FLL there is not only one customs arrival. Spirit has the worst by far. However Southwest has the best by far in Terminal 1. Jetblue has the same customs area as Spirit also. SW you fly through customs............

Well those airlines are good for people that can not afford to pay high prices, and to all that do not want to pay, the statistic of the load factor in flights to Dominican Republic with Spirit are over 90% and Frontier over 80%. There is market for ever body, and specially for the people that read and understand what mean Low Cost and now Ultra Low Cost Airlines. You are fine when you know that what you get is what you paid for, if you select one of those airlines thinking you will fly like business class your flight will be nightmare.

Southwest is well above Spirit, Frontier, and Jetblue to fly.

Frontier is currently in a very good position financially going into this merger. American and others not so much, a lot of debt. Frontiers pricing model going forward is yet to be seen, but you can be guaranteed it's going to squeeze AA and the other big 4.

Just an observation on Frontier. I had a reservation with them in the Spring of 2020 to return to the USA. This is when the Wuhan Flu hysteria broke out. They refunded my $ 100% within 24 hours of me asking. This was either March or April of 2020. I have never actually flown with them but do am on their email list. I'm not too crazy about their pricing, as it adds for carry-ons. But other than that, I have no complaints with their administration.
