The Ministry of Public Health says it has tested an Israeli breathalyzer and certified its accuracy is 95% of the PCR reliability tests. The difference in price is around RD$800 for the breathalyzer vs. RD$4,000 for the PCR test. The biggest advantages, nevertheless, are in a shorter time to have results and the ease of the test. The breathalyzer just requires a person to breathe into a tube. The Israeli developers are promoting the test for use in airports around the world.

In the Dominican Republic, the Medina administration has ordered all arrivals come with a PCR test results no older than five days, or take a blood test at the airport. Those that test positive in the blood test are then subjected to a PCR test. As reported, no one is being quarantined unless they show symptoms. The public health authorities then follow up with the person as the results become...

Is there a dog inside the box?

5% slipping through, just what the world needs. This entire debacle started with only one case.

85% accuracy....... not a replacement for a blood test
=====================================================

NanoScent, the firm making the test kits, said an extensive trial in Israel for the presence of live virus delivered results with 85 percent accuracy, and the product could receive regulatory approval within months.

Chief executive officer Oren Gavriely told AFP the breathalyser would not replace lab tests, but was a mass screening tool that could help people gain "the confidence to go back and act as normal".

Arrivals need to have a negative result document from back home.

I just got one at CVS in the States and I had results in two days. They tell you 5 - 7 though when you go thru. So no guarantee you could have one less then 5 days old to use upon arrival in the DR.

Yea, I agree. 85% means the same to me. Windeguy stated it started with one case. Now they are saying 15 cases out of hundred slipping through is a measurable and acceptable loss? Does anyone really believe that this tool will help bring back confidence?

Just imagine how many of those north coastal "Everything ________" residents who preach hiding from the Chinese Virus under mandatory lockdown are actually +POSITIVO+ themselves, and do not even know it.
Or perhaps, some do.

Blow and go. Doesn't matter if + testers walk out of the airport and into the crowds. Doesn't matter how much you test
Exactly!
Letting people into the country who test positive but are not sick is foolhardy.
What is important here, tourist dollars or slowing community spread of the disease?
Just one super spreader tourist wandering around the country could spread the illness to a lot of people.
Is it time to avoid the tourists?
Absolutely bizarre crazy.
What politician is making a decision like this that goes against even basic common sense?
