Jeesus, outdoing themselves on the photo front, must be the most disturbing and unnecessary I have seen in many years. Occasionally I have to just shake my head, drop my chin and wonder what on earth is wrong with these people showing such images over and over with no parental option to cover their kids eyes, or even why on earth they think we need to see maggots in a murdered mans head. It has absolutely no relevance. There really is something wrong with someone who is so intrigued with violent death, gore and filth. Yet for an entire nation to become consumed with intrigue is alright?

And there really is no understanding of why people grow up to be so violent, unscathered by violent acts, think nothing of cracking a rock over someone's head, chopping someone's arms off, really, people wonder why? Maybe ingraining it into kids lives has a little to do with it?

Yes, I am used to it, I am not surprised, it's just how it is, but I was just biting into my pork and beet root sandwich when I clicked on the report, not impressed.

You and I, are not the tail that is going to wag the dog here. It is what it is.

Enjoy meeting new people/cultures
The essential matters

Really causes one to think.

May he Rest in Peace. Met him several times looking at houses. A pleasant, kind friendly guy and professional. Not sure we will every know the story - nor does it matter. He has died.
While we can dwell on statistics or whys or wherefores the issue is that CONSTANT vigilance must be a way of life. I love it here but as a business person I try to make it known - no money, no flash, no payroll at business, don't pay vendors at the business - only at the bank, only accept credit cards...
and that could still mean nothing to the person who has it in for you for whatever reason.

I suppose that can happen anywhere - but the anywhere I choose to be concerned with now - is this little piece of tropical paradise.

Well, that was not that difficult after the car had been found. :classic:
Now, they need to find the policeman who accompanied him...... ;)

This has me wondering if a PN gets sent down, is his life easier or tougher on the inside? I know in most countries they have a terrible time, but considering they are regarded as the countries mafia/police if it is backwards here.

German man missing

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am still in shock and disbelief. I have been working with Dirc Weber and can only confirm that he was a quiet man, very nice, very courteous, helpful and dependable. In fact, I have been inquiring about the Laguna apartments, but he told me they were already rented. I only know him from a couple of interactions, but if you look at his website, it is by far the most professional inventory of apartments for rent and good value for the price. I was surprised to learn that he was a lawyer. In Germany, being a lawyer is still considered an honorable profession, which is not always the case in the US. So, I have a hard time believing that he would have been engaged in anything inproper. He was on my list to contact to set up a meeting to look at some apartments and I contacted him just before I found the post on DR1. It looks like there was a co-owner, but I cannot find any information at all, so I am not sure. I tried to engage him in conversations, but he was very reserved, so I am not certain he had family in the DR. My sincere sympathy and condolences goes to his family!

On another note, I am hoping for your advice! I am hoping to purchase a car next week from a private individual in Puerto Plata. The car was checked out by a mechanic and everything seems to be fine. Reading through this blog I want to know how I can protect myself during the transaction? How can I make this a safe transaction for everyone, especially if the owner does not have a bank account. Can the funds be deposited somewhere I have the owner sign the contrato de venta and the traspaso de vehiculo and I have a lawyer make the transfer. I really would appreciate any advice of what this should look like? Can I ask the owner of the car to drive the car to the lawyer and I do the transaction there and pay for the owner to get back to Puerto Plata?

Thank you for your responses!

They were arrested... but no one completed the prosecution because his family did not want to pay to make a report..
More or less thats the story. Dirc helped me a lot when we first moved here.

that makes ZERO sense. If they did that the tourist world would be up in arms. 6 months ago but no way I believe they were just let go ?

Several years ago, our nephew was shot outside his father’s business in Santo Domingo and later died. I was shocked to learn the family was expected to pay the fiscal office/prosecution for something. Wasn’t cheap. Shortly thereafter, same guys murdered someone “important” with the same gun, and were finally prosecuted.

That is a corrupt system. So only the wealth can get justice ?
Well then the murders shall continue unchecked
