After checking my internet speed using the FAST.COM URL, I noticed the most I was getting was about 20 mpbs. Checked my plan and I had the 20/5 plan So I went to the local Telenord office and got the 50/10 plan for a lot more money. Since then, my range has been 16-26. Apparently, to get the 50 speed I have to plug my laptop directly to the router itself. (Impossible to do unless you have a prehistoric computer)

I told the manager I'd be happy with 30-40mbps. Fat chance. It's all a ruse. They keep coming up with excuses and so I only got a very marginal if barely noticeable improvement. Still buffers at times.

Has anyone experienced the same piss-poor Telenord internet speeds?

Ojo: if they didn't make the changes in the router re the throughput, you're simply billing on a new plan but receiving the old speed. I have the login for my ZTE router and can change the throughput myself. I guess if they catch you it's a problem

One more thing. The throughput loss over wifi small distances is minimal. If you're a long way from the source router you will see appreciable dips in throughput.

I only get about 6Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up as measured on Speedtest and really have no problems at all. I can watch movies on YouTube, Netflix, and Apple movies with no buffering at all(?). I could pay for faster speed if I wanted it, but so far have had no need to.

Use speedtest.net instead and also make sure you're checking your speed towards a server that is relatively close to where you're at, for example Not a German server.

It's not impossible even if you have a newer computer, just buy a USB hub with Ethernet connection on it from Amazon.
And before you determine it's the ISP that's the issue, check your router and the WIFI capacity. I have 100/50 Mbit but on a 2.4 GHz network I only get around 35-40 Mbit if I'm like next to the router, even worse if I'm in my bedroom, then it's more like 10-15Mbit, but if I'm connected to a 5ghz network then I get the full 100 Mbit, but only if I'm in the same room as my router.

I wish it was faster, sure.
I also wish I had the same hairline I had in college, I could drink all the beer I wanted and not get a big belly, still have sex 5 times a day with a girl who demanded it, and had all the money I would have made if hindsight was foresight.

I didn't move to the DR to watch TV - I use my Netflix or Amazon Prime video accounts as a sleeping aid.
I put a movie on and I can guarantee I will not see the end of it before I dose off.
And forget porno channels - that only makes me feel like Pee-Wee Herman

That applies to all internet service providers in USA, the stated speed is if you are hardwired via ethernet which you either have a desktop or use ethernet adapter easy fix. Most laptops don't come with ethernet ports because most connect via wifi. Same reason they removed cd/dvd drives from most laptops. Most people stream music or listen online.

Too many variables (distance from router, wall materials (cement walls kills wifi signals), size of the house, even the computer, 2.4 ghz or 5 ghz etc) to guarantee the same speed with wifi, wifi will always be slower speeds than the speed you pay for which is based on being connect directly to the router.

That's why many work at home jobs require wired connections, traders etc usually use wired connections for the best speeds and latency.

Not entirely correct, any decent business-class laptop has an RJ45/Etherner connector. I need to be wired to do my job properly so I can only use one (with a good quality cable)...

We recently purchased a few new laptops (our eldest is studying, my wife needed an upgraded one and I was running out of RAM...) and indeed, the cheaper ones do not have cable connector but the pricier ones do...

We upgraded to fiber optics with Claro this year, and their tech in fact (I don't care what their opinion is, just for the sake of reference here...) told me the exact contrary. The router MUST provide the full contracted speed even with the WIFI, so being wired cannot be the requirement. I agreed with him even though I know this is not the reality... Appears that on the router, the 5G network was not enabled, now it is and problem fixed...

Even if your laptop does not have a Ethernet connection, you can still indeed purchase a USB-adaptor to wire yourself directly to the router to get the most out of your connection.

Hi There is a limit of how much bandwidth can be delivered by 2.4Ghz network between modem and your device, in specs those modems say 300Mbps but in reality it's only 30Mbps and if you have multiple devices connected probably going to be even less. Reasons mainly because it needs to be compatible with older devices.

they told you to use cable because the bandwidth you are buying is what is limitation between them and your modem over fiber and you got the the point where wireless network limiting you.
they were right if you connect with cable you can get what you are paying for, you can also buy premium router and get 5.8Ghz network which offers much higher speeds (between router and your devices if they support it).

While the above makes sense, as far as I understand, the problem here is that usually, the modem/wifi router is ISP's property and they configure it so essentially it's the same ISP not providing good enough equipment to actually work properly with the WIFI. Yes, you can purchase a premium router IF that works with the ISP/router. I have understood that this can certainly be done though...
