If he did not want to answer the 8 questions, why did he open his mouth and tell that story?

That is a FASCINATING READ ..

So he SAVED her , sharing Many Details of how he did it and how he struggled .

But Then, she being the Unappreciative BRAT that she was , she just walked off into the Darkness ? , and then he passed out ,
and then casually walked back to his Hotel Room when he came to.
Like this is just a Normal day for him ?

That is one Whopper of a Story . I wonder if he Actually Told that Story, and they got it all on tape .
"But Then, she being the Unappreciative BRAT that she was" The statement is tactless, cruel, uninformed. You do not know her. Where is your empathy towards the family and friends of the young woman?

Regards,

PJT

I think one has to keep in mind that not everything you read online (news, newspapers, etc..) is guaranteed to be accurate. We all know that.

The theory is that he will use the rescue to save himself in case the body is found with signs of violence. How did he save her and she continued to walk on the water. If you are drowning the first think you will do is get as far away from the water as possible.

There is another theory that he was wired around 50k dollars right after.

Also, where are his shoes? He says that his shoes and shirt were stolen. The theory is that he disposed of the shoes so there won't be any traces of what he stepped on.

Why did the women's friends take her cell phone? It is 2025 cell phones are a extension of a young persons body.

Context
Features Ivelia Batista, a criminal lawyer and former district attorney with 6 years of experience, analyzing an interrogation/interview of Joshua Steven Riibe. Ivelia points out that Riibe is being treated as a witness rather than a suspect by prosecutors, who conducted what she characterizes as an "interview" rather than an interrogation.

Assessment
The lawyer describes Riibe's statements as:
  • Vague and full of gaps
  • Potentially either completely true or completely false
  • Appearing rehearsed and coordinated with his legal team
  • Containing significant contradictions
Inconsistencies
  • Riibe allegedly refused to answer detailed questions about what happened at the beach (whether he could swim, if he shouted, how long he stayed)
  • He was evasive when asked if he informed hotel staff or authorities about the incident
  • Contradictions regarding his room key (claiming it was stolen at the beach but later mentioning being in his room)
  • Conflicting statements about whether the young woman left the water (saying both that she went to get clothes and that she never left the water)
  • Inconsistency about the water level (claiming it reached her knees)
Investigation Critique
Ivelia suggests the investigation should:
  • Be more thorough and detailed
  • Include examination of Riibe's belongings
  • Interview all hotel staff working after midnight
  • Interview all potential witnesses
  • Search trash bins and thoroughly inspect the area
Additional Information
It is mentioned that authorities have Riibe's phone and are conducting tests, which could provide more information about the night the young woman disappeared.

It behooves the Dominican govt to turn up the heat on this kid. If he's as guilty as the optics appear, folks will be more inclined to separate the DR and the hotel from this. If he in fact killed her, this could have happened in Iowa, Miami or Lativa - it's between US citizens.

I'm amazed the body hasn't been found. From what I've read, it's very rare not to find the body of a swimmer who drowned.
This, you and I agree on my esteemed Cab friend. That said, what are the possible explanations. I seriously doubt any reasonable human would believe some 22 year old potato picker college kid from Iowa had a coordinated ring of thugs in the DR under his direction. It's not like he was strapped with cash either to pay off a few Haitians to disassemble a body and disappear it.

However, I've certainly heard more unlikely scenarios be true at the end of the day

I agree. The DR has nothing to lose here if this kid is guilty.

He's lawyered up now, it's going to be tough to extract more out of him, if he had anything to do with it. Maybe he'll slip up and say something to someone or his memory was genuinely messed up and he made up a tale and contradicted himself.

Disagree 100%, anyone that is in his position, in another country, unable to leave, will get a good lawyer. This does not mean he is guilty of anything.
Not sure which part you disagree with. True, he is in a fix and his family went all out to get him out of whatever mess he is in (his father is in the DR).

It's also the reasonable thing to do and I am sure the US embassy would have advised him to do the same. At the same time given he has high profile lawyers who are not exactly cheap, if he is indeed a suspect but not named as one, the PN/Fiscalia are going to have to match the calibre of what stands in their way to solving this or they will be legally obliterated.
