I think if the below is true, then its about to wrap up.
If her body were already Found in the Ocean ( no matter the bodies state) , then this would make perfect Sense .
Since She has not been found however , and IF the Dominican govt were to allow this and then she is found later in a Shallow grave it would be absolutely devastating for TOURISM in the DR ..
Not only because she met with foul Play at an AI, but because a simple minded 22 year old Country boy Duped their entire Legal Process and made them look like complete Fools .
again, " IF "for the hard of reading.
Its way too risky and there is NO way the DR AG is that much of a Fool and a Moron.

I understand the Parents perhaps have now accepted that she is gone , and nothing will bring her back, and May God give them strength ..

The AG has taken an oath. If they shut it down and Sudiksha's body, for example, is found buried somewhere down the line, well that's incompetence. Furthermore:

"Dominican Republic law does not require the public ministry to comply with the victim’s family’s request to stop an investigation or declare a death accidental, particularly for serious crimes. The public prosecutor has the discretion to continue, ensuring justice and public interest are served, with the family’s role limited to participation and input, not decision-making."
What are they odds they wrote the letter while out of the country, who delivered it, do they have attorneys? The timing being before tomorrow's court hearing. A lot of unanswered questions.
Their religions and the norms of their society in general frown on this sort of media theatrics, or as AE had stated, it brings a societal disgrace in some cases.
The community scrutiny could have gotten to them or they are getting some type of pressure from other sources to put an end to it. It just seems to be an unusual move. The two families have been in communication so not telling if that's how it came about.

Maybe if her family speaks directly to US press, it might it settle it. It just seems quite odd that they would write such a letter when they just made a complaint asking for investigations. They may have accepted her loss, the declaration of death may have to do with insurance and other reasons but to go as far as to absolve him and its timing (the leak of the letter to the press) seems rather odd.

US media:

Dominican Republic National Police spokesperson Diego Pesqueira said that her family has sent the law enforcement agency a letter requesting a declaration of death.
The Konanki family did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday night.
Sudiksha's parents noted in the letter that they trust the authorities' investigation, the source claimed.
They also wrote that the young person last seen with their daughter, 22-year-old Joshua Riibe, has fully cooperated with police and believe there is no evidence of foul play, the insider said.

Thank you .. appreciate the Sourced Info . that clarifies it then
Apologies from my inaccurate detail of them chatting online prior .
, it was written on a Social Media Site and was stated as if it was fact.
Its as if people go out of their way to post inaccurate info .. and then I repeated it . my mistake

In My defense I posted about it much earlier in this thread , and no one said anything one way or the other about it ..
So I just assumed it was a known thing and part of the Story
My apologies again..

This however makes me think HE is even MORE Guilty now than ever .
Hope the FBI finds some Clues about this guys background ..
If they had been chatting online previously and met in person for the first time at the hotel, why would you think him less guilty than if they just met while on spring break?

He needs to be released.
Failure to remember every exact detail in a sequence of events after a hard night of drinking with some chic you just met doesn't make you guilty of murder nor does following your paid counsel's advice when it comes to answering (or declining to answer) a few questions.

This fella has a whole new set of problems to deal with when he returns to the USA. Due to all of this news coverage he will be harassed about this incident for the rest of his life.
Agreed if evidence proves him not guilty of a crime. The fact her body has not surfaced casts a lot of doubt on a drowning

Please learn how to use Contractions.

"You're" is a contraction meaning "you are," while "your" is a possessive adjective indicating ownership or belonging.

You're Welcome.
Thanks for helping me much appreciated I always was terrible in writing English and I'm not going to change now... maybe you should apply for a job at Bobs School.

I'm sure the family knows far more about the investigation efforts than we do, and are not making the request for determination of death from an uninformed position. I can only imagine the emotions involved in that decision.

Well I've worked closely with Indians for over 25 years in my line of work. Their religions and the norms of their society in general frown on this sort of media theatrics, or as AE had stated, it brings a societal disgrace in some cases. The Eastern religions and society in general are 180 from the West. I think most people understand this. That said, see post 999
wow just what we need another Indian expert on their way of life

I disagree on any devastation of tourism. People today have a 5 minute Tik Tok mentality. This will be as forgotten just as the "devastation" of never finding Daryl Fortunata. As I said before, there is a practically no chance they will find the body so it is a moot point.

Perhaps the DR government wants to leave this open. It won't make any difference if it is closed or becomes a cold case that remains open forever as to finding a body. Would it not be better for tourism to accept the parent's wishes?

Add to that the fact that he was drinking, probably not thinking clearly, it was still dark, and her weight is 120 lbs. He’s a big guy, probably very strong, but no criminal mastermind. Search teams and cadaver dogs combed the beach areas extensively. I highly doubt he had the presence of mind to concoct a scheme to bury her in a shallow grave. I still think she drowned, he didn’t notice it until it was too late to save her, and the weather conditions at the time carried her body out to sea quickly.

I don’t know if the prevailing winds were onshore or offshore at the time. If they were offshore, the winds combined with the resulting wave action would override the prevailing currents and carry a floating body offshore against the surface currents. Objects floating on the ocean surface move at a rate of approximately 5% of prevailing wind speed. That section of beach is really just open ocean. No protection other than a reef just offshore. The fetch, the distance offshore the wind can generate waves, is unlimited in that area.. Dangerous wave action is common in that area judging by the number of people that have drowned along that section of beach.

I don’t know how quickly responders arrived at the scene and deployed search boats. Even an hours delay would make the offshore search more complex. Shoreline searches would have had limited value after any delays.

Definitely Windy. The DR government wants this put to bed and so do her parents. It’s a very large negative media storm rarely generated by drowning incidents at DR resorts. Her parents have partially come to terms with their loss and don’t want further media scrutiny. The FBI can keep close tabs on him in the US, and if her body is found and foul play is determined, he can be extradited back to the DR to face trial. Keeping him in the DR pending further investigation doesn’t make sense if the evidence trail has hit a brick wall. If he is remanded, it will be for PR purposes, not investigative purposes. Once the US enforcement agencies leave, the PN will return to business as usual.

The family, clearly an educated lot, has no doubt made a collective decision to move forward and let their lovely daughter RIP. They are not looking for angry misguided closer. Super sad story!
