We all heard the President announcing exceptional measures to help dominicans get through the covid19 crisis.
Amongst other measures, the amount given out on the tajeta de solidaridad is to be augmented.

Is there anyway to verify if said tajetas were issued ?
The conditions to actually get one ?

I know lots of poor ( like really poor ) who do not have the tajeta, even though they applied for it.
And recently it came to my knowledge that some people affiliated to local political party in power have had multiple tajetas.........
Is it the municipalities that are the " deciders " ?

I also hear the same stories on the state health insurance for the " poor".....
Only those close to political parties in power actually got the insurance, even though many many more enrolled in the program, a few years back.

None of that would surprise as I have personally seen people that I know have money collecting the christmas food/booze boxes for personal use. My wife's aunt has a solidarity card, but none of her sisters including my MIL do.

I have seen several Politico groupies (for lack of another word) at the ATM's with several cards..... thakin like 20 minutes at the console ..... I am not sure what they are doing but it looks like transferring funds...if youcan do that at an ATM.


Notwithstanding that , I just heard that the $8,500.dop is being received by those with ''the card''...... how does one know who has a card.

The 8500 has nothing to do with the Solidarity(Bono) Card program. That program enrollment members will received 5000 pesos per month for two months, at this point.

In order to reduce the impact of the current crisis on the country’s main productive sectors and their collaborators, the Dominican government recently created the Employee Solidarity Assistance Fund (FASE), which will basically provide a subsidy for the payment of employees salaries in order to help companies with their April and May 2020 payroll obligations. The aid will cover monthly salaries of up to RD$8,500 per employee, on the condition that the employee is kept on the company’s payroll.

The FASE program will be rolled out next Thursday, April 2nd. On this date the Dominican Government will enable an online form for all companies to submit their applications; therefore, we invite you to consider this opportunity promptly, so you are able to apply on time and benefit from the program.

if government isn't fast & diligent enough to feed the poor, there'll be food riots & looting very very soon. This is actually a survival move from the ruling class. Feed those guys or be robbed/killed/looted.

I'm not sure those guys with the cards are politicos; more than likely they're prestamistas withdrawing their money.

Most banks have a limit of two transactions per person.

A person with a handful of cards should only do two transactions then go to the rear of the line. If not, somebody should draw their attention to the fact.

I actually saw video of the government delivering food bags last night in La Vega.

They'll get a call from the government (forgot the name of the institution) letting them know of the approved places and time they are authorized to do their purchase. Then, with cédula in hand, the customer goes to the check out line, show her cédula and based on her number the government will pay the amount that they are offering. That's it. No need to get a Solidaridad card or anything else.

The purpose of this is to prevent a long line and agglomerations as happened in many places violating the social distance, an attempt to control how many people are out doing their grocery shopping at any given time, and supposedly contain the further spread of Covid.

Now the government officials are saying that the Solidaridad card will be handed at home, but everything else they already said about calling et al stands.

In addition, hydroxychloroquine is now applied to all people that are confirmed positives for COVID. This includes anyone in a public and private hospital, as well as quarantine at home with the disease. The government is assuming all costs related to hydroxychloroquine to make it free for all users. As eexpected, the Covid mortality rate of the DR is fall tremendously if it works on everybody.

Will government's aid be enough? Will the masses get enough food so they don't go out & desperately loot? Should the power in place start a massive movement of forcing ex-tourism worker to train & work in agriculture in order to produce enough food? Are we headed towards a Cuban style socialism? Another 680k will get it -----only in april and may.
