Government will insist that all are vaccinated

The trend may be higher prices. For the winter maybe but I think the airlines will offer cheap seats initially just to get people back in the travelling groove. We actually have some new low fare charter airlines planning to fly South. Air Canada execs were forced to return their bonuses, up to $450,000 each because they took a government bailout package with a no exec bonus clause in it. They tried to slip the bonuses through but the media got hold of it.

"They" may want everyone vaccinated - well my wife just returned from her doctor. She is POST-COVID and has pretty much fully re-covered. Her doctor said under NO circumstances should she get the vaccine just to satisfy travel requirements or freedom of movement. Period / end of story / regardless of what the government here or Canada ( in our case) says.

"They" are flying by the seat of their pants. And not just here. 😳

Natural infection

Herd immunity can be reached when enough people in the population have recovered from a disease and have developed protective antibodies against future infection.

However, there are some major problems with relying on community infection to create herd immunity to the virus that causes COVID-19:

But as far as insisting on vaccinating, the DR government and various businesses are going to put a lot of pressure on people living here to be vaccinated. Electric cars notwithstanding. A two tiered system is arriving at the station, so to speak.

Canada-DR flights should resume the day the government announces no more Covid hotel stay for vaccinated people. I expect to see some sweet deals on flights and accommodations.
AC shows flights to PUJ starting June 26. I used that connection because of unavailability of other flights in November 2020 and transferred to POP by private transfer.
WG Sunwing end of July beginning of August even to POP.
WS Westjet August 6, so far they cancelled every promised departure.

Many Canadians will have full vaccination by this time.
Hopefully the DR will also continue vaccination progress to make travel safer.

More vaccination pressure in the NY Times:

Vaccinate the world

Roughly 20 percent of the world’s people have received at least one shot of a Covid-19 vaccine. The speed with which the remaining 80 percent are vaccinated will mean the difference between life and death for a staggering number of people — probably in the millions.

20% means there is a very long way to go in this 2021 year of vaccination.

And many more vax/anti-vax discussions to be had. Probably that will gone on forever and ever and that is a very long time.

But is it legal to force a citizen to be vaccinated?
When asked about this, attorney Cristóbal Rodríguez Gómez, explained that the Constitution in this regard is clear, when in its article eight on individual liberties and the general interest establishes that “the exercise of individual rights and liberties must be compatible with public order, general welfare and the rights of all.”
“In other words, our constitutional system turns public order, the general interest and the rights of others into insurmountable limits to the exercise of the rights of everyone,” emphasizes the jurist.
He said that the State is empowered, therefore, to impose limits when the exercise of rights becomes a threat to the general interest, which, in the current case, is collective health.

At this point, not one country in the world has a law that requires its citizens to be vaccinated. So should the DR make it a legally mandated requirement, they would be the first to impose a vaccine on its citizens.

It appears that lots of Dominicans are reluctant to get the vaccine that has been readily available for some time. That reluctance may or may not have been related to the fact that it is of the Chinese variety or of low efficacy.

Interestingly enough, reluctance to the vaccine in Spanish communities in the US for whatever reason (Chinese vaccine not available), is also extremely high. By way of example, the lowest vaccination rate of any city in Massachusetts is Lawrence, with an extremely high concentration of Spanish people, overwhelmingly from the DR.

Governments across the world likely recognize that passing laws requiring vaccinations might be the easy part of the equation.......getting compliance will likely be a whole different matter.......which is why no country, at this point, by law requires it citizens to be vaccinated for COVID.....nor should they.

Respectfully,

From what people are telling me, it's purely down to misinformation and false rumours.

Haha. i call BS on this 20 percent figure. No source quoted, just more lies and propaganda from a newspaper that probably has vested financial interest in these vaccines. Follow the money.
