Because that area is 9th Kilometer of the old DR1. That's the reference.

Mile 0 or Km 0 of the whole country starts at Parque Independencia at Zona Colonial. From there count 9 kms. That's it. Simple.View attachment 9742For reference, the image is the old route of DR1 highway in Santo Domingo: Palo Hincado > Simon Bolivar Ave > 30 de Marzo Ave. > San Martin and ends at JFK.

It's simple if you know/live in SD. I live at Km3 here in Cabarete so Km 0 can't start at Parque Independencia for the whole country. Miami has an incredibly simple system for the entire city - no map needed to find an address, but if you're not from Miami, you won't have a clue.

Lots of major cities are like that. If you know your way around somebody can mention an address and you have a really good idea of where it is.

That's why I can mention N.W. 79 st. in Miami, and Cavok probably knows where it is and how to get there.

One of the reasons zoning was invented.

Sir, I just shared basic cultural info about the DR1 highway (very valuable, lol) inside of DR1.com lol (pun intended).

Good for Miami people and their efficient system.

Happy friday!

It’s suppose to be KM 0 for the whole country but it isn’t. When you’re approaching Santiago on the Duarte Hwy the KM markers actually go down instead of up and those closest to the city are in single digits when at the very least they should be 3 digits if the distance is measured from SD. They are following a KM 0 somewhere within Santiago, maybe close to the monument. lol

Well, how about that? From nightmare to zilch.

Unfortunately, this will only move the bottleneck from one location to another.
