Haiti denies ban on Dominican products over repatriations
Haitian Prime Minister Evans Paul denied yesterday that his country had banned Dominican products in reprisal for the implementation by the Dominican government of a migratory status plan that could result in repatriation of thousands of undocumented Haitians residing in the Dominican Republic.
"The prohibition of the sale of Dominican products in our territory does not exist," said Prime Minister Paul, on his Twitter account and on the webpage of the office of the Prime Minister.
The rumor, which was apparently falsely attributed to the Prime Minister of Haiti was spread across the social media, stated that Haiti was to impose a ban on the importation of many Dominican products, including poultry, plantains, eggs, peppers, vegetables, and fruits. Paul said that the Haitian government has only requested of the Dominican authorities that the protocols for deportation contained in international agreements be followed.
