The Haitian government has issued a note lamenting the kidnapping of two Dominican film crew and their Haitian interpreter on 20 February 2021. They were in Haiti working on a documentary and were traveling with a convoy of 15 vehicles. They were commuting with expensive equipment. The press release says the case is of high priority to the Haitian government.

The Dominican brothers were identified as Michael Enrique and Antonio Campusanto Feliz. Haitian Police spokesperson, Garry Desrosiers denied that the Police was escorting the convoy. He said it is possible the group was escorted by the Police, but these were not on duty nor officially assigned to the task.

The Ministry of Defense of the Dominican Republic has enacted a major effort to bring back the Dominicans.

Great time to be filming a documentary in Haiti. If you go looking for trouble, you are likely to find some. I'm sure they are not the first "tourists" to lose cameras on this island.

Man o Man I hope those guys go in and repatriate the film crew, ASAP! Otherwise these low-lifes will do it again and no one will be safe. Let the bodies hit the floor !!

Some people are brave enough, have more internal fortitude and are willing to take the risks to inform those too afraid to get out in front of their computers screens.
I for one and happy they are willing to that.
Are people who travel to a war zone to report things stupid ❓

Untill things simmer down there is absolutely positively no reason to travel to Haiti, super dangerous right now. Besides the food is prepared in a sub standard sanitary environment.

In a word, yes, people who travel to war zones to write about the war are a certain kind of stupid. They certainly are not normal.

Going to Haiti? That is far more stupid and the topic of this thread. And no in response to your comparison of the DR to Haiti , the DR is not even close to as dangerous as Haiti. Haiti is in a different league.

I can't agree, Windy. There are many humanitarian reasons to go to Haiti right now. Although it's a bit risky, I would go if there was an impelling reason.

It appears my son's older sister will be getting married late this year or next. I will probably be going to the wedding. Is it a risk? Sure, but they want me there and I want to support them. My bigger issue is doing the dress-up thing, which I abhor.

Then we are at loggerheads. I would not go there if you paid me to go.

I have neighbors that volunteered in Haiti for 5 years. Highly educated people from the USA. They left after they realized that nothing anyone can do there will make a difference.

It is even worse now than it was when they left.

I have no problem agreeing to disagree.
You do you and I will do me.
When individuals call bravery stupid.
I have nothing more to say to a narrow minded individual such as that.
There is a saying for that.
I am not writing of all the people of Haiti
I am optimistic because I believe in the hope of the best of people.
Some are negative.
And I make it a point to stay away from negative people.
Haiti may be in a different class than 🇩🇴 when it come to crime and civil danger.
But to call the 🇩🇴 safe is a overstatement.
I know what the topic of the thread is.
I think those who remind me of it are stupid‼️
The word Haiti is in my post.
Are you happy now *****❓

Your neighbors are probably right in the macro scale. It's hard to work there and see that you're making a difference in the larger community.

However with different individuals and families one can make a difference. I have seen that with my own eyes and continue to see it.

We may not be able to save the entire country, but we can save some. For that reason I push on.

It does not take any more muscles in your face to frown than to smile.
I choose to smile ‼️
I'll leave those negative about Haiti's (the subject of this thread) prospects to continue to do what they are good at.
Snide commentary and negativity.

Snide commentary and negativity, you say?

I call it "Realism". We can revisit this in 1, 10, 20,,,, years and still be in the midst of the same discussion.

Is there anything to "smile" about regarding the kidnapping?

I read in the news this morning that the documentary they were filming is about Kidnappings in Haiti.

There is more to this than meets the eye.

I see you are off to a running start windeguy ‼️
Are you immediately having a reading comprehension problem first thing.

I call it what it is...
Negativity and snide commentary.
You (and others) would write off millions of people.
Haiti is a nation of people.
Separate from the government of Haiti.
Individuals such as your self simply do not understand that.
I have traveled all over the world.
To places my where the government of my home country is not liked.
But the people always told me personally
We do not like your government
But we have no problem with the people of your country.
So, I ask you...
Is your problem with the government of Haiti❓
Or do you simply hate all Haitian people❓
Is there anything to "smile" about regarding the kidnapping?
How (profanity deleted) up does a individual have to be in order to ask a question like that❓
Of course there is nothing to "smile" about regarding a kidnapping.
In Haiti or any other country or situation.
I am not going to explain basic english to you.
I do not have time for it.
If you did not understand the meaning of my post...
I cannot write it any clearer for you.

Thank you for the opinions, Yourmaninvegus. Your lucidity is astounding.

I was looking to see if there was any progress in the kidnapping, but you may have missed that detail regarding the actual point of this thread.

I understand there will never be any progress in improving Haiti itself for the foreseeable future without divine intervention.
You can further your pointless hopes for Haiti in the other thread as well.

I call it Realism. Realism is often confused by people like yourself for negativity. I can't help your ability to perceive reality.

I don't hate Haiti, I don't hate Haitian people.

If you could read English well, you would never see any comments about any degree of dislike for Haiti or Haitians in my comments. Your personal agenda precludes your comprehension, apparently.

I simply realize there is no hope for Haiti. Just like my neighbors who spent 5 years there doing charity work and realized there was no hope and finally gave up and left.

Is there any news on the kidnapping?

You can continue to display your callous disregard of millions of people in the other and all future threads on Haiti

Now, I am confused with the inability to perceive reality.
I perceive reality just fine.
I just don't predict the future as you do.‼️
Or see the future the same way as you do.
I don't hate Haiti, I don't hate Haitian people.
Well that is good to know‼️

I asked you a question and you answered it.
Thank you.
I simply realize there is no hope for Haiti.
Your opinion.
I disagree.

Normal law enforcement policy is not comment or make news releases in the middle of a hostage negotiation situation.
But you wouldn't know anything about that now would you❓

Your serve 🎾‼️
