This is more or less my point . Throughout this country there is a hatred of Haitians that is quite unhealthy. On this site, there are North Americans boasting that they are here illegally and there are many thousands of Venezuelans living here illegally yet the total concentration is against Haitians and any story that blames a Haitian for some reason is roundly applauded. Arrests of other races are not much news but an arrest of an Haitian gets publicity . I doubt if it would upset me if the Haitian people were able to care for themselves but it seems most are living a life in hell.

The deportations will continue until those in DR who are employing Haitians tell the government to STOP - as in "These are our essential workers"

Every sovereign country has the right to deport illegals... simple as that

And all Haitians are deemed to be "in transit" (unless -- there is a Really Strong Dominican behind them that wants them to stay working)

I disagree.

A whole lot of Dominicans I interact with daily dislike haitians. They say it openly, and usually for reasons that you would stop believing in when you turn 12. They eat cats, practice black magic, are fundamentally evil, etc ......

The funny thing is it doesn't seem to apply to the haitians THEY interact with. Maids, finca workers...... And they get on just fine with them

Well I have any Dominicans any of those things. I am guessing you are talking about uneducated camposinos. Voodoo is considered black magic by many people in many countries. If one of going to assess Haitians only by what is on the news you would that Haitians are pretty violent.

Doubt that. I have known him for years. He had a boy in our school for years and is a legal resident and he has had a Dominican girlfriend for a few years. He should be getting his papers soon to immigrate to Canada. He speaks English, French, Spanish and Creole. Very skilled cabinetmaker.

Annie, DNA tells the story. Therre are towns in the Cibao where the majority of the population has little African blood, and quite a bit of Taino blood. American concepts of what is white or black also don't fit the rest of the world. Most Dominicans don't deny they have African blood, those that do. Not all do.

I invited a friend from Santo Domingo - whose GRANDPARENTS had emigrated from Corsica- up for a weekend in LT - with whom I spoke only English
When I returned - my best friend told me "The locals are saying that you are walking out with a Frenchman"

Dominicans are amazingly astute in recognizing national origins.

Once on the beach at Guayacanes , a European couple had a back pack which they left on the beach while swimming (right - stupid) and when the police came and started asking "what color ?" The man said blue shorts, white shirt - and I had to explain - No- Of His SKIN!!

Even 2nd and 3rd generation from the respective sides here in the USA do not get along.
