We have a single floor house, which get pretty hot sometimes.
What are the best options to treat the roof to lower the temperature…any experiences?
Thanks.

Cement roof: White paint perhaps. Tin roof: drop ceiling with fiberglass insulation installed. Just suggestions.

Not a tin roof, thank you.
I don’t think white paint will help a lot.
Frankly I was hoping for a brilliant idea from someone, from the NC …

Crazy ideas; you need some sort of heat barrier above the roof. I assume you have a ridge on the roof all around of at least one block (20cm) high? Fill it up with earth and plants, make it a flat garden! Or span some big sunshade cloth (those with rings on the corners) just above the roof.

Sellador de techo ( spelling ? ).
Roof sealant . Reflects something like 80% of sun rays--- supposedly.

When we changed from tarmac to roof sealer, we saw the temperature go down a bunch of degrees inside the house.

I did the same thing in our house. It was done for filtration and it also ended up helping with heat.

The trick to good results is doing a good muriatic acid wash before applying the sealer. Let the roof dry completely (at least one day) before applying the sealer.

I think I used Lanco the last time I did mine.

Might be easier and cheaper to improve the natural convection flow in your house. Additional ceiling fans strategically located to push cooler air at lower levels up into the ceiling to displace the hot air trapped there. Cut some inside/ outside bug proof window vents near the eaves to increase convection flow and get the air on the inside of your house near the ceiling moving. If you can move it by convection, you will drop the temperature without adding significant cost of to your electrical bill. A friend on mine installed solar driven marine vents in the bedrooms in his casita. They worked!

I've got computer fans in my back room that blow warmer air out. Only two, but I see movements in my curtains on other windows.

It does help some as I used urethane paint because of infiltration and noticed a couple degrees difference. Not huge but an added benefit.
