The latest I know is that we did a doantion of US1000 on DR1's behalf and HB and I amde a nominal donation. I believe HB also made another donation. Given that they are directly helping 2000 people without homes and indirectly many more I wouldn't believe that an immediate difference would be noticeable. However, Caritas has received many more funds too, mainly from big businesses here on the island and I'm sure they are carrying out their duties, mainly food and medicine and clothing. Their office downtown had many, many boxes of donated clothes and a discount pharmacy.

So the late & difficult to process donations to Chris are yet to be delivered. Excellent, this means that further Donations can still be sent to Chris for onward delivery (via Caritas) to those who have missed so MUCH of Christmas good cheer, a little booster. Any more excessively warm hearts out there?? If so, just send Chris an e-mail & I am sure she will be pleased to send you the PayPal invoice for what you would like to pledge!!

I wonder why it takes Government :pirate: so long to put their hands into their OWN pockets when most have had a VERY healthy '13th month'?? :ermm:

What update from your end Chris? I hope none of the pledgers have done a reverse charge via PayPal - that wouldn't be Christmassy at all.:surprised ~ Grahame.

Grahame, looks like we have all donations cleared.
Cash in the bank $1,500
Paid to Caritas $1,100

So, $400 still to be delivered to Caritas - I'll wire this down on the 2nd of January.

This is the state of things on my side.

Thanks for remembering Robert. I had diarised this for follow up at the end of the month but your timely question will doubtless get us up-to-date on monies passed over & possibly fenerate some new blood to the donations.

Can Chip or Hillbilly advise us of what other help is still required? Newspaper reports tell me that support from 'The Government' has been sorely lacking. ~ Grahame.

I'm sure they will need continued help as many people lost their homes not to mention other valuable items. I'm sure the main push from the churches and mission groups was to get the people into shelters and fed and clothed and given medecine, then little by little other personal items, not to mention new dwellings. This will require somewhat a long term effort, especially to get the homes built again so any continued donations will be of good use.

The money we have donated may not sound like a whole lot given the probable millions of dollars of damages caused by the flooding, but believe me it will make a difference to somebody out there.

How did all this turn out? Did all those that pledged pay?

Robert there was a difference between pledges and payments but I believe that this is common and this happens. But we managed to get a good amount to Caritas. It felt good to help, albeit in a small emergency manner. Although many of us are not 'churchy types' ;) in this instance I think the Church is well placed for first line assistance.

Grahame, I never intended this to be a long term thing as I simply cannot handle it on the long term. So, I would suggest that we make an arrangement with Gregg and Hlywud if people want to donate on an ongoing basis. It would be better to work through a registered organization for money collection. I do not know if they have space to add a 'cause' to the good work that they already do?
