In response to smokingasadyinart maybe upon booking your trip you should have reviewed the resort more closely and you would have found out that it is a resort that caters more to families especially with young children. We booked after finding it in a Signature brochure deliberately because it had many activities for our children. Perhaps next time you'll go elsewhere.
I've never heard so many complainers in my life until i found this forum.
People give me a break.............when travelling to such destinations as the Dominican Republic you have to take into consideration that you may get sick, take immodium, i do aswell as many other over the counter drugs.

Hi everyone we are going to the holiday village for our honeymoon in April how does this holiday village compare to the other first choice holiday villages e.g. Lanzarote, Costa Del Sol and Majorca we have stayed in them and although they were full of kids we really enjoyed ourselves. We have found a tour company where we can book excursions this is called Mels Tours has anyone used these and are they a reputable company many thanks. How safe is it leaving the site some time back i read it said stay on the hotel grounds then you wont get into any trouble what was meant by this.

"was told whilst staying there that there is someone who works for First choice that visits this site and tells people that the hotel is improving etc well if this is so then i have got ONE MESSAGE for you--the hotel is falsely advertised and telling people that it is improving and advising people not to take it out on the Reps etc is below the belt. The hotel doesn't come close to a 3 star nevermind a 4 star! "

To the person who posted this: I have said it before and I will say it ONE more time. I do not work for the hotel or either of the Tour Operators. I report what I actually see and hear and what I think is correct. IF you disagree with me that is your right. What is or is not false advertising is not for me to say. I have absolutely NO vested interest other then helping out.

On to more important things: 2 good looking guys - you are on!!! Yes please, I would love a newspaper and we can enjoy a cold one. Dancing - honey I know almost ALL of them! My specialty is salsa but I will dance everything (except reggaeton cause that is not dancing)

Cots - I have no idea if they are comfortable, what I might like you might hate.

Leafs Fanatic - do you want to be my new secretary??? Thanks for your post.

The Acua lounge is just between the reception area and the main pool bar. IT is truly stunning. And lots of TV's to watch the games.

School supplies - contact my by email or PM and we can arrange a time to get together.

Ron - aka Ottawa - was going to Ocean World today I believe........... So we should hear from him a bit later............. Ron - let's arrange that get together...........

We did have family rooms booked but upon arrival we were put in a standard room up 2 flights of stairs - we ended up leaving the strollers in the lobby - which worked out in the end. The resort compensated us for the difference in the cost of the family room vs the standard room - $15 US each person for only 1 night. We actually stayed in that room because we had nowhere else to go so they should have compensated us for the whole 7 days. We had cots for our 23 month old twins - they were ok - a little ancient. Our 2 year old had to sleep in a double bed. If you do in actual fact get a family room i believe they are ground floor level. We had to ask for the cribs and waited a good couple of hours for them even though they were ordered upon booking. Also i suggest taking your own booster seat. They are seriously lacking in highchairs - we actually phoned the resort before leaving to make sure they had enough and they told us they did. That is not the truth - they have about 5. Last week there were a lot of babies and everybody was fighting over the chairs.

As to smokingasadyinart my beef with you was that you were complaining about the many children on the resort and i have children and they did enjoy themselves but as to the other complaints yes you were right and i have to agree with you.........i really don't reccommend this resort. That's my opinion and for those of you still going well you have been warned and i sincerely hope you have a great time.

I have spoke to first choice this week and last week and have to say they have been very helpful.

I expressed my concerns and they looked into it. They said that the resort has been getting a lot of positive feedback but offered my group of 25 people a free move if i really wanted to.

I have decided to stay at HVGB. If you review any hotel there is always good and bad reviews. I have stayed in place like turkey etc where standards arent what we are used to in the Uk. Yet you go with that in mind and I have never had a bad holiday yet.

I am getting good vibes, cant wait still 97 more sleeps tho

Ottawa Senators Here:

Hi Everyone. Trust me when i will tell an extenisve review in a little bit. I hurt myself today (and i wasn't drinking either dammit, cause it hurts bad) I went down the slide and didn't put my feet up (I thought I had). My heels crashed into the concrete floor. Needless to say, I am not walking right now (well on my tip toes, and no I don't swing the other way). Lots of adults have used the slide, but it looks like your going to hit the other side when your going down, so I guess my reflexes tried to stop me, and I got hurt.

Since we have moved rooms, we have had no issues which is good. Yes i have heard people that have had issue in there rooms, and I do trust them as we have spent time with them.

TO THE UK PEOPLE: You guys are pretty fun to party with as well the americans that were down here. We spent a few days solely with some UK people and had a great time.

Weddings: Still haven't seen or heard anything so no updates.

Family Rooms - I think they look pretty cool. No Pics, but good use of limited space. Yes lighting would be an issue, so if that is a concern, at least you will know coming here.

Food: I like it. Lunch time, I just make my own sub and it tastes great. Use you imagination and make your own menu. A LA CARTS - Loved everything expect the oriental. Not my thing. Lots of cheese (can you say "Binding" at the mexican.

Entertainment - hahaha, at least it will make you laugh :). I'm not really here for the this, but i can see how some would be VERY dissapointed.

What I do think however: They have some guys here that are not in the right position within there job. They should be the entertainers though-out the day and evening. Get the women in the resort laughing, then you get everyone having a great time. These guys are awesome with making the women (and men) laugh and have a great time. Problem is: they are in the a la cartes. Get them near the pool and let them do what they do best.

Thats it for now. I am having a great time meeting people and spending time with my wife. For a vacation for my at least that is what I ulitmately wanted. My wife and I don't get all the time in the world back at home, so this is a nice time to be the "boyfriend and girlfriend" back when no kids were around.

J. hope everything is back to normal at the house and B. is doing well.

NO problem for me to go to either resort, they are 5 minutes from each other. GV is a much better resort (my opinion only) for adults or almost adults..... Will find out about beds tomorrow.

Chocolate is it's own food group. With or without raisins or nuts, dark white milk......... it is all chocolate........... Gracias!!!

Morning everyone.

Water temperatures - to visitors it is nice and warm. Whether it takes a few minutes to get used to it as you go in - no idea - that would be different for everyone! It is warm though.

Room categories - in each resort and with each tour operator they will have their own way of "categorizing" their rooms. This is not about confusing anyone, it is about "marketing". They all want to stand out from the competition. They all want you to think theirs is better.

At HV - their is standard and deluxe. My understanding that deluxe is Royal Suites.

Wedding requirements - thanks for posting the costs of those documents - but would you mind taking those conversations over prices and details private. Same goes with all the hocket talk. A little if fine but after a while it bogs down the thread. Thanks.

Planner I really do not want to be rude here as you are doing an absolutely fantastic job. I do not want any hard feelings but feel this needs to be said. You have told us to keep wedding matters private yet I feel this is appropriate to this thread as there are quite a few people getting married there and do need the help. The information is helping a lot of people.

Can I just add that how much of the thread has been bogged with chocolate, newspaper, books and meeting up? Are these not pm matters.

Sorry if I have offended you but just thought this needed to be pointed out!

Kelly.

Please don't bite the hand that feeds you. Planner may just be less enclined to help us if you are not nice. :\

Planner has done nothing but try to help all of us and give us the best information possible. I think what she is saying is that not everyone is getting married there and you may wish to form your own thread.

Please be nice.

Well iam sorry to hear that so many people are coming back with bad reviews. We leave for the DR on Feb 1 and can not get into HVGB. Which we find a shame, the kids would have loved what HVGB has to offer. We are going to a neighbouring resortn but are on stand by if there are cancellations
So anyone want to cancell Feb 1? Let me know so our family can go !!!!

Planner- talked to Signature and they said there is no such thing as getting a day pass for HVGB? Do you know if we could get a pass down there?

T&Z I was meaning the resort was for families which the travel agent had not pointed out to us that is all.And it is good that you are now able to appreciate what i was saying in my review. It is easy to sit back and judge when you haven't been there i guess tho.
Grogan i think you have a very fair point there myself.
This thread is titled Holiday Village and weddings are a part of some people's holiday package so an ideal thread to discuss concerns, idea's etc.
It does seem unfair that Planner you then ask for no wedding chat then go on to talk about Newspaper's and types of Chocolate and what dance moves you know.Is it okay to type about the wedding dances?
Me too is saying it is not a dig at you but it is a fair point.
Like you said in your earlier post planner you don't work for first choice and you are simply helping people out with info because you live close by and i can see why that is appreciated but telling people what to type about is hypocritical when you continually post about personal things.Fairs fair!

Why dont you just be gratefull for all the work Planner has done for us. Are you trying to stir the pot? She has given us more information then any one of us could have found out for ourselves. Iam one of the ones who has gone on about the Leafs she and others asked to back of, so I did and others did too.
Do you hear us whining about it? No
