Now THAT is interesting. I have been assured repeatedly this is only available in packages with air! Thanks for letting me know. I will go back to my sources and ask what is up...........
I just did it this morning. Paid by AmEx but have not gotten my comfirmation by e-mail as of right now. I truely am holding my breath!!!!

Don't worry Ottawa . . . the bar is a couple of steps from the pool area. By the way, this main pool area is certainly not a "toddlers" pool. We have been going here for a number of years and it is where they did water aerobics and pool volleyball at about noon and early afternoon . . . . for adults and the few teens who might have been guests . . . . Although this hotel was for many years a family resort, then and adults only, and back to the family thing a couple of years ago, the main pool area was never a gathering point for children because of the depth of the shallow end of the pool (I would say over 3 ft.). Most people with children had their children well supervised in the pool or had them at the beach. I would suspect that they will now be at the new pool area that has been built. // Just as an aside, our travel agent said that it is almost impossible to get answers out of the Signature people (Toronto) as they don't seem to know what the rules are either!?!? We definitely know people from the US who have booked land only . . . .

Drink Holders?
What drink holders are those forcath? Are there more pictures of the resort that I don't know about? :surprised Where are they?
does anyone know what the deal is with the drink holders that I see in some pictures?
are we to to bring some with us? Is it necessary?

Last year we were in Punta Cana. The resort was great. We wil be travelling March 24 for two weeks. ( too long of a flight for 1 week) we have our 13 year old daughter with us. She has travelled with us since she was two and she enjoys all the places we have gone. All the resorts are great with kids. Our daughter is a supurb swimmer. Bronze cross, bronze medallion etc. Syncronized swimmer etc. It dose not matter to her where she is in the pool as long as there is a pool. The last time we were in Puerto Plata we met some great people from England and I hope the same happens again. We are from Canada and with the great internet we can keep incontact with others from other contries. Let us know if you will be a theholiday Village the same time as us. Last time we stayed closerto Caberte it was great.

Hi All, Just want to say to everyone Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year, i finish work today and unfortunatley dont have a computer at home so wont be able to log on again till 2nd Jan, least it gives me something to look forward to. Im not going to HV till September but check the site every day (highlight of my day, he he sad i know) Special wishes to Planner your a star and also to Ron aka. Just wondering if anyone posting here has been to the resort in the last week? Is the restaurant on the beach open? Comments about standard rooms? Is the gym / weight room complete? What other type of progress has been made? Love to see people's pics and hear their personal responses as they return. Great forum!

Hi everyone.
We are travelling to hv next week and this will be our first visit to the DR. I also would like to thank planner for all your help and advice you have given us through this forum.
Altough you said that one of the restaurants wasn't finished, can you confirm if this is now open and if anything else isn't quite ready.

Seafood Restaurant Progress
What used to be called the Seafood restaurant on the beach is still very much under construction. They unloaded a container with the stainless steel fixtures this morning.
The new Asian restaurant. Lotus, is outstanding. they have brought in a chef from Houston for a couple of months to train the cooks. However the restaurant is called the "oriental restaurant" instead of the correct designation of "Asian".

shopping around HV
Hi,
Could anyone who visited the resort this month comment on available shopping in the area? It sounds like the gift shop is very expensive. Did they have much to offer? I'm going to Ocean World and they indicate they have quite a large gift shop. I just want a few souvenir type items and my daughters wanted jewellry. Thanks.

The shopping is similar on all the resorts, convenient but pricey.
Also in Playa Dorada is the plaza, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
Ocean World, in my opinion, has the best gift shop in the country! I love it. It is priced for tourists but I don't find it out of line. They have a very good selection.
Also make a trip into Puerto Plata itself. There are all kinds of shops in town from the touristy to where all the locals shop! It is very safe to go into town as long as you use your head.

Ola! My first time on the message board.Thanks so much planner for all the info,especially the pictures they were great. There will be 16 of us heading to HVG the first of Feb. Went to DR last Feb,stayed at Puerta Plata Village. It is right across the street from HVG(Jack Tar) We had a blast cannot wait for Feb.I read a ways up about what to do re;money. We found the best way was just to bring your bank card .Ther are 2 bank machines at the Plaza and they give you the best exchange rate. You will also need your 20 bucks USA and also at the airport they have no bank machines so you'll want a few bucks case your plane is late.We also tipped our favorite people in U.S. funds which was very appreciated,but not ever expected.Happy Holidays and I would love to meet up with planner when we return to DR as I am also a chocoholic I know what it is like. Also a big supporter of school supplies.(also saved all my halloween candy) I will keep in touch and get more info later thanks again The King Crew.( Ya we are all related,But it is a big Island !!!!!)
