There is no food available from 4:00pm (when the pizza place shuts) to 6:30pm (when the buffet re-opens. There is also no food after about 9:30pm.

Now, technically, there is food 24 hours in the upstairs "Aqualounge". This generally consists of dried out cheese sandwiches that have been sitting there for hours and some very unusual looking salami.

In response to the weddings questions, I had a look at the area where they perform "garden" weddings. It way off to the side of the resort, very near the day-care area. Currently, the area is a shambles. It tends to get quite swampy. If I were you, I'd choose the beach option.

I can't believe that a hotel that markets to the Brits doesn't serve Afternoon Tea. Most of the other hotels in Playa Dorada do. I kinda like those little sandwiches:rolleyes:

Re questions about food:

We did find pizza and burgers sometimes in the snack bar (mexican restaurant) in the late evening around 1130 or so, not sure what time it stays open. There was popcorn at the main bar in the late afternoon after the snack bar closed, around 4 - 530.

re weddings

Oh dear I am getting very worried now. The main part of the holiday is for me to get married. Someone has mentioned that the beach is not very nice and Spire has informed me (Thank you very much) that the garden area is a mess and swampy.

I can cope with problems with the hotel. You normally have some to deal with. I just really wanted my wedding location to be nice as you often see in the wedding brochures, the true caribbean wedding. It doeasnt look like that may happen. Oh dear.

Im not sure what I want to do. I have read all the reviews and not been put off but now I am slightly concerned. There are 24 of us in total so I cant see them moving us.

On a positive note I dont go until April so hope by then things show a big improvement.

Thanks for the info good and bad everyone.

Hope you are ok planner you have been quiet lately.

Hey Kelly,

Don't worry honey - by April it will be a whole other story! The beach is not a mess either. They have done a good job on the area.

I"ve been a little sidetracked lately, work keeps interfering in my personal life....LOL I do have a call in to one of the reps, looking for info.

Thanks all I am trying to stay positive. At the end of the day as long as we say I do and become man and wife then everything else is trivial.

Yes darwinless i can tell you what the rooms are like (family rooms).... they are the same as the photographs that have been posted on here.....family rooms are same as standard rooms (just with the kids room attached) thats the only difference......

grogan i do agree that the resort area is swampy yes due to the building work going on etc ,however the beach area is nice...yes there is bits of sea debris etc but nothing major....

the beach was the positive aspect of our holiday really........being on the beach made you feel away from the resort (which was a blessing to us)......
the beach is 2 minutes walk away from the main resort part......across a path and golf course and youre there........
the maps in the brochure make the resort look big(village) in actual fact it is not very big at all.........

Call to Signature Rep this pm

Hello again!

After reading this thread, and every other one I could find, I had to call Signature this afternoon.

We are leaving Jan 9th and I am getting worried ...

The Signature rep said she had been there with other travel agents when the resort first reopened ... She did have some hot water issues that were quickly fixed. She also mentionned that, even though she did not notice volleyball nets, the watersports equipment was available.

There is also a bar on the beach to serve drinks.

The Caribean restaurant is still under construction, so not opened yet.

I asked about the adults only areas, and she confirmed that all adults had access to these except for the pool, as mentionned somowhere on this thread.

I told her about what I have been reading and she replied that she has not received anything to complain about the resort.

I know that some of you have been there, with some disastrous events, others, not so bad. I am not disputing any of your reports, just wantd to let you know what the Signature rep had to say this afternoon.

I am leaving as scheduled and will go with a smile, trying to make the best of it!

We are travelling the first week of March. Hopefully, by then it will be better than what has been mentioned so far.

We are looking for 24 hour drinks...and food/snacks...we also are bringing a deck of cards (Canadian, eh?). As long as we have some cards, drinks and music...everything will be great!!!

It seems that the majority of the bad reports have come from those of you who were there over xmas and new years. Im hoping that the resort was just totally booked with no room for error.
