Hello from HVGB

Hello from sunny HVGB DM, weather is good very hot, first couple of days was rain, but now the glorious sun shine is here. Ok about the hotel, we had a little hiccup on first day, we were placed in a family room, and had to request to be moved as we were right next to the kids swing area, not good, but since we complained, we got upgraded to the Adult only bands, and our second room is really nice, we face the golf course out the back, and it is really nice. I celebrated my birthday here yesterday and had the best day ever. They really went the whole hog for me to enjoy a good birthday. My husband ordered me flowers and they are amazing will post piccies on my return. I had balloons in my room, and later in the evening we had a plate full of fresh fruit. The hotel is not at all as bad as it has been made out. The food is good, plenty of choice, we have been in the mexican and the oriental and so far they do serve good food. The workers here can not do enough to keep you happy, if you have kiddies, they do a lot to keep the kids entertained. The evening entertainment is not fantastic, but last night after several drinks, we entered the casino, what an experience. Overall do not panic, like we did, I can honestly say at the moment it is good, we are having a fantastic holiday. Will post again in a few days. By the way have seen nobody sick or ill at the moment. Stop panicking!!! Overall so far it is good for a nice relaxing holiday.
Take care all
Caz and hubby Ade ;)

Isaira Tours is in the middle of updating their website. Hang in for another day or two and things will be connected.

I recommend the jeep safari to the waterfalls, Freestyle catamarans day trip. These are two of my favourites.

If you go to the weather forum and check the Puerto Plata thread you can see daily weather reports. Currently it is beautiful! May and June tends to be nice but you can expect rain showers later in the day, not every day though.

Planner do you know if they are still updating their website as I still cannot view any of the excursions section??

NIce to see another good review!

YEs they are updating the website. some things take a little longer I guess. Email Martin and he will send you an email like Bodders suggested.

I hear of people being sick in other resorts all the time. It is not just HV that this happens at. My friends just flew out today, they were here for 6 months. They spent the last 2 weeks in Celuisma Playa Dorada, the old Playa Naco, one of them got sick for over 4 days too. IT happens.

The weather is fabulous right now and my fingers are crossed that it stays nice.

I have been reading these comments for some time. We have been gong
to the DR for over 17 years always staying at the same place. Once
Jack Tar then Allegro and now Holiday Village. We were there for 3
weeks from the end of Feb thru most of March. The place is great.
I did not get sick - neither did my husband. I usually do not eat any
beef and very little fish however I eat everything else they have -
including salads. The food is good - some meals are really good and some
not to my liking. I have never been sick nor has my husband. The staff
is great and if you go back many times they treat you like family. They
do not have the best entertainment now - in the the past it was much,
much better. We usually do not stay up that late (we are up early) so we
don't really care that much. The rooms are fine - always clean. We have
stayed in rooms much finer in other places but we are happy with the
rooms they have there. We stayed in the Adult section so the children
did not bother us at all -- although there are now many more families
with children there now than there were in the past.
They have made many improvements over the years and the only
bad thing is the entertainment is not as good as it once was -- also some
of the fine staff left to go others places when the resort was closed for
renovations and we miss them. I hope everyone has a great time and
enjoy yourselves -- relax.

Can you get in contact with Isaira tours when you arrive in the DR or is it best to have some contact before you arrive there.

Yes you will be classed as adults by First Choice as they have recently sent out paperwork saying that if you are staying in the Royal Suites you have to be 18 or over to be classed as an adult. (I think that this was to set the record straight that even if you had a 16 year old who you were paying full price for they wouldn't be classed as one over there and so could not use any of the adult only facilities but 18 and over your can.)

I am able to access their website ok. Try using this link:

Isaira Tours - Dominican Republic

If you still have problems just email Martin @ espinal30@msn.com & he will email you a list of tours.

Thanks Bodders - I can access their website fine its just the excursions section where you can choose people & places etc which will not show. Not to worry I will email him direct like you and planner suggest.

Hi all,
Its 18 wks / 126 days today till we fly out, anyone else there in september? My husband to be tried to ban me from looking on this forum the other nite as we have only heard bad stuff lately, i cant say im worried about all the supposed sickness going on, a bit of delly belly is normal in such a country. and as if anyone could ban me fom this site, im hooked. he he. i was a little concerned for all my guests coming though as they are all flying out for my wedding and would hate it if any of them got sick, but i think its going to be fine.

Chris - worry is a totally useless emotion! Instead of worrying about getting sick or your guests getting sick, put together a care package to bring in case anyone has problems. That way you are prepared and can let go of your worry.

Dont' worry about things that you cannot do anything about! It is a waste of time and energy.

**note to all - that includes the weather.....;) which right now is stunning.......**

Planner

Hi Planner, THanks for that. as i said earlier im not worried for me and my partner, its more a case of they are going because of us and i want them to enjoy the place and also not get sick, its just the usual bride stressing out, he he. i know me & michael will luv it, we were at fun royale last may and loved the country so much thats why we are getting married there. we would luv to live out there eventually. we have already promised we will be there every year checking out all the different hotels. i never thought i would go back to the same place but the dominican is fantastic and we loved playa dorada 2 bits. i totally envy you chick.

CLOWE et al,
Stomach problems are hightened by dehydration - i.e. not enough minerals getting into your system to replace those lost during sweating. Water/fruit juice rather than alcohol tend to reduce dehydration & keep you more resistant to stomach problems. A small & easy way to help prevent onset of dehydration is to take extra salt on your food. Start about 4 weeks before you come across & sprinkle liberal dosage of salt on your meals whilst here!!

YES bring dehydration salts, Yes bring stomach settling tablets, YES bring medications to fight minor ailments of this nature BUT, ...... taking the above precaution prior to coming & continuing whilst here, will help tremendously to them being not needed!! ~ Grahame.
