I disagree completely. Let's compare the two. Colombia you stay more than six months you CANNOT come back. Dominican Republic you can stay SIX YEARS, pay a fee and are welcomed back. You tell me which is more lenient with tourists visiting?
People who stay for months at at time are not "tourists".

SOMEWHERE
The units in large condo buildings are immediately sold and occupied. I know you think every person with means has attained it through illegal vice (drugs). The fact of the matter is there is a huge economy here and people are making money. Believe it or not, the D.R is not just Cabarete and Janets super Market.

Right on!

Many opportunities to make business and to grow with it in the DR without having to get involved in anything illegal much less criminal in nature.

So the people who stay for months at a time in Colombia are not either..................
That is correct. That is why I want the DR to have a special Snowbird visa.
Violate it, and you get stuck in the snow.

I personally agree with the Colombian approach. Stay more than 6 months as a tourist and you cannot come back.
That is the very reason why I prefer it!

Become a legal resident if you want to stay longer.

I know, it is just me.
Obtaining a visa for Colombia is a lot easier and quicker than the DR too. And you can get a competant lawyer to do it for about 500usd whereas a Dominican lawyer will want $2000.usd.

What you want and what is are TWO different things and does not correlate to the facts...........

And you would be correct,Big Pants is dead wrong....
people that have not participated in the huge economic boom that has taken place often times feel better when they attribute everyone else's success as drug money. See the person with a nice car; drug money, see the person with nice clothes; drug money, see the person with a nice home that is not furnished with plastic chairs or IKEA; drug money. People have attained success here w/o the involvement of illegal activity. Not everyone here is looking for the cheapest prsidente and a low electric bill.

I prefer to think the construction of empty apartments is from drug money laundering.
But that is just me.
Reminds me of all those construction cranes running 24/7 down in SD during the heart of the 2008 recession. Nothing to see here people...
keep it moving.

hmm.. Tourists = someone who visits a place for pleasure and interest, usually while on holiday
If you stay here for SIX YEARS, you're NOT a tourist, you're a resident, and should therefore also get the resident status.....
So for TOURISTS why should they care if they could stay 6 months or 6 years?

Its not just an uptick for the S&P 500 but rather a rip your face off rally that has left the people expecting a recession in 2023 and staying on the sidelines holding the proverbial bag......although money market accounts/CD's have provided a little cushion.

That having been said, you are correct that the stock market and the economy are not the same thing. Lots of countries still struggling under massive debt and likely unable to right the ship without a bailout..............Argentina in LA quickly comes to mind as the poster child for bad economic policies/decisions.

I would like to see how the overall Dominican stock market has done..............but since it is hardly transparent........getting data is difficult.

Respectfully,
Playacaribe2
getting anything here is difficult because they are always trying to figure out how to make money off of something you need

The big draw for me is the ease of staying there. Expats, tourists get a six month visa every time they arrive in Colombia. The government has tightened the regulations a bit but a six month stay is still possible. The DR government should see the handwriting on the wall and follow Colombia’s immigration rules. Sooner rather than later.
keep dreaming the main problem they have on the hands right now is the country getting overrun from Haitians they are not worried about the gringos and the Canadians that are coming here spending money trust me

furthermore if the Canadians and the Gringos didn't come here the Bad Dominican people would have nobody else to scam you can't scam the Haitians they have nothing
