Hola! I'm looking for a hotel recommendation (non-AI) for Thanksgiving week. It's for 1 person, but I will be meeting up with local friends and may want to bring them on-site for drinks or dinner.

I'd prefer a hotel with some form of nightclub w/music on-prem, and I'm not staying in an aparthotel. I'm also researching a vacation rental, but i'm chasing that down in parallel. What's a decent hotel that's going to hit me for $125/night and has some nightlife within a 5 minute walk?

(on-point replies only please; I know it's easy to get off on tangents)

You can google Santo Domingo hotels along the Malecon( road runs along the sea) The Crown Plaza looks nice and is in the price range you are looking for. The are others with Casinos. If you are meeting local friends than I am sure they know the after hour hot spots.

Check out the Hotel Palacio near Conde. $85.00 per night. The big hotels on the Malecon with the closure of Jaragua are running $125.00 + taxes right now. Good luck.

I'll check these out; I'd kinda like 1-2 more to compare with, but I get that the pickings may well be slim for that week. thanks for (mostly) staying on point folks...

I way prefer the Colonial zone compared to the Malecon. Many places you can easily walk to including bars and restaurants. I stayed the first 4 times on the Malecon and won't again.
I always suggest Casa Sanchez! Great staff and good location. I am not a boutique hotel fan really but this place has changed my mind.

One place I did stay at recently bc a friend was performing there that I liked but was kind of out of the way was Dominican Fiesta Hotel and Casino. The casino was closed for renos I think but maybe it is open now? It is across from Parque Mirador and I really liked the area. Not much to do I don't think but seemed like a nice chill area.

Probably best to go to Boca or JD, better selection of foreigners clubs etc. You're in price range to go midrange where ever you want. I'd not be happy to spend that much on a city location for a week. Not value for time, interest or money.

Part of the intent is to be centrally located to Santiago, JD, and BC, to spend a little time in each, as well as SD. I figure a 1-2 days in each spot will give me a taste of each location without being rushed, and if I really don't care for it after the fact, I haven't sunk a ton of money into it.

Booked Palacio, should make for an interesting trip report.

So the economy room for ~$50/night was 1000x better than I expected. Having stayed in an aparthotel in SD for $40/night, that's what I was expecting for $50. I was shocked. The only thing is that the window faces a stairway, but that wasn't a big deal for me. If I'd wanted a room with a view I'd have stayed in another hotel.

The breakfast buffet was decent, but a good deal at $9/day. And Palacio is less than a block from Calle de Conde, and a short walk from (whodathunkit) Chinatown. The BBQ cerda and fried rice was an excellent combination, but I couldn't tell you what the name of the place was. I do know how to find it, and will be back for both the hotel and the dinner in Chinatown.

There are a few others I can recommend also. I have been using the Mercure when on special is $45.00 per night plus tax. Also the Apartahotel Roma II is nice that one is $47.00 per night including tax if paid in cash. Those are the best in the area at that price point.

I know a nice clean hotel a few minutes away form me here in Puerto Plata which charges 1500 pesos a night. It is 100 pesos by taxi from a casino, but has its own pool and air conditioning in each room. PM me for details if interested.

Puerto Plata is really a nice accommodation. I personally experienced there. Its all services were admirable and i would like to highly recommend this one because it gives you all stuff that you want in a decent price. jsimonson0! So think about it anymore and just try this one.
