Your security camera has a much better image than I have seen at businesses in the US. For example: Walmart, CVS etc. etc. My guess is that they buy cheaper systems.

Outdoor cameras are made to work in harsh conditions.
Not at the Seaside with a 90% humidity. The other reason why they wont last is that Dominicans employees are not always fond of maintenance and treat stuff with care.

Somehow I think people are envisioning Cameras like the Front Porch Cameras , where you can tell of your neighbor who is visiting SHAVED that morning ..
Reality will be a lot different . and I agree with other posters , in a couple months , those cameras will not even be maintained any longer . if even connected

When I was robbed at knifepoint last year in Higuey, out of the 10 cameras on the street block, guess how many footage I was able to get next day .... exactly zero.

Yes, all this true, but then if anything happen and the resort have no footage, you can seriously sue their ass as they were obliged to have cameras and that will be negligence on their part, I think lawyers may advise them to take care of those cameras more seriously after this... but again this is DR.

In addition I think the staff will be well ****ed off having cameras, that would mean they have to do their job properly and no slacking - that does not go down well with Dominicans ("culture").... ! lol

All in all this is at least one good outcome out of all the recent news.

About time

After cases in hotels Tourism gives 60 days to install security cameras

This was reported by MITUR in a circular signed by the minister Francisco Javier García

Diario Libre - DOMINICAN REPUBLIC 05/06/2019, 12:40 PM

The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) granted a period of 60 days to hotel establishments in the Dominican Republic to install surveillance cameras, as ordered by Resolution No. 43-08 of the entity, regarding the latest events that have been submitted to the international scrutiny the security situation in the tourist poles of the nation.

This was reported by MITUR in a circular signed by the Minister Francisco Javier García, which warns that the failure to observe this measure could lead to the withdrawal of the operating license, "independently of any other measure that may be applicable or pertinent".

The content of the document, which was signed on Tuesday, June 4, is aligned with the ordinances of Decree No. 818-03, on the Functioning of Hotel Establishments.

The decision was made after an American tourist, Tammy Lawrence-Daley, reported that she was brutally beaten at a resort in Punta Cana.

Added to this case is the death of the husbands Edward Nathael Holmes, 63, and Cynthia Ann Day, 49, whose bodies were found in a room at the Bahia Principe hotel, located in the tourist complex Playa Nueva Romana.

Every resort should have cameras in all common areas. It's the only way to verify what is really going on to protect guests as well as themselves about potential false claims.

There was a donation drive to get dive equipment (probably here, now that I think of it) donated for rescue work. I asked about a maintenance plan and everyone kept saying "we'll figure that out later, just give us what you can." The whole effort vanished in a puff of logic shortly thereafter.

now we hear that the DR and its people cannot even install and operate a surveillance camera in a hotel.

i live in an apartment building with four apartments. a guy broke the safety on my sliding window and got into my apartment. they caught him, because there is a perfectly clear documentary of him carrying out his exertions. if a simple apartment building can set up surveillance, i think the Hard Rock probably can.

I find it surprising resorts do not have video cameras with hard drive backup running throughout their resorts. The reasons for the video surveillance are too numerous to list.

Probably a good thing there isn't a Hedonism resort in this country. :)

I'll be watching youtube for all the new comical tourist foibles posted with footage from all these new cameras. I'm sure the wives will too - golfing my a$$.
