Thank you for the edit feature.

Is it time-limited as before?

It's not supposed to be time-limited. I set all the member groups to unlimited. There are still posts showing up in moderated which should not be. I need to dig into the config and see what's going on with that.

Is the site loading ok? It seems slow this evening. Server is not overloaded. It's possibly Altice or an internet backbone problem.

From Santo Domingo
PING dr1.com (151.139.128.10): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 151.139.128.10: icmp_seq=0 ttl=51 time=500.543 ms

500 is pretty darn slow. That's almost like dial-up internet :)

From San Jose California:

PING dr1.com (151.139.128.10) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 151.139.128.10 (151.139.128.10): icmp_seq=1 ttl=54 time=12.0 ms
64 bytes from 151.139.128.10 (151.139.128.10): icmp_seq=2 ttl=54 time=12.0 ms
64 bytes from 151.139.128.10 (151.139.128.10): icmp_seq=3 ttl=54 time=12.0 ms

12 ms is pretty darn fast.

I separate the forum from the rest of the site.

The forum is fine. Few small negatives, more positives. All-in-all, once the bugs got worked out, really nice. One additional feature I like is the little button at the very bottom left which allows the user to toggle to full screen. Nice.

But IMO the rest of the site missed a huge opportunity, starting with the home page.

The DR is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. The home screen, and all the non-forum areas, in no way reflect the beauty. I was hoping for a more visual presentation of the DR, but got Web 2.0 bland and boring instead. Maybe that's what the PoohBahs wanted. If so, they got what they asked for.

It looks like it was built for speed and SEO, and not to attract eyeballs to the REAL reason we are all here, and why tourists should visit. While speed is important, content is even more important, and I don't mean written content.

I would prefer a newspaper-type website with HD (but optimized) images and videos, with an attached forum.

Words may affect the mind, but images evoke the emotions.

For example, if you removed the two small and relatively hidden references to the "Dominican Republic", would a first-time visitor even know what the website was about? Images tell the story and keep the average web-surfer interested. All words cause a quick exit.

Net-net: Forum is an upgrade, the rest of the website is a downgrade. I suspect there will be challenges in trying to monetize DR1 if that was a criteria.
