After the success of the exchange rate thread (started in 2003) where we've
collaborated on exchange rates around the country, I am starting this thread
for people who want to find out if they're getting the speed they're paying
for. Does this matter? Well, it already helped me to get a 20X increase in
the speed of my internet connection.
All ISPs (Codetel, Aster, Tricom, Wind, etc) have different routes out of
the country and if you're on the wrong routing it can have a huge impact on
your internet performance. This thread isn't intended to be posted to every
day, but if you're installing a new line or want to benchmark your
connection with what other people are getting, this is the place to go to.
Please post your own results so we can continue to monitor the situation
around the country. You'll be glad you did, since you'll have a record of
your own internet connection performance in case you have problems in the
future with your internet and need to compare it.
To share your information, please answer these simple questions:
1. ISP, reported speed, location
2. Run this test via the NYC server: Speakeasy-
Speed Test
3. Watch this video and note the time when the entire video is buffered:
YouTube-
The Bartender Says...
4. Post your traceroute to yahoo (windows: tracert yahoo.com, mac:
traceroute yahoo.com)
