Some of you people are really scary. Ask the family living under a dictatorship what freedom means. It definitely isnt being able to fly back and forth to an island and get drunk with their friends.

In actuality you have the right to think(regardless of how idiotic it may be) how you want
You have the ability to say what you want
And you have the ability to do what you want
You have no idea what a prison state is by the vomit you just produced.

Get over yourself and your sense of entitlement.
lighten up bro, the man was expressing his angle, FYI Castro is dead

The freedom to travel and return to my beloved Dominican Republic which I miss terribly. The freedom to leave the house and go anywhere I want, whenever I want to, at whatever time I want to. The freedom to congregate with more then 10 people. The freedom to go and have a nice dinner at a restaurant or a drink at a bar. I could go on and on. We're living in a prison state right now in the DR and everywhere. If that's not loosing freedom I don't know what is and all in the name of a flu-like virus that is proving to have a very small percentage death rate.

Trump is pushing to open back up the U.S. and meeting resistance, so no to your question above. The sooner the U.S. opens the faster the Dominican Republic will open as the DR follows the U.S. on almost everything. So..... the sooner the DR opens the sooner I can come home.
Sometimes we have to make a small sacrifice for a period of time to safeguard others, and not just ourselves.

Wow, alexw, I think you're the one who needs to get over yourself. I have been nothing but respectful to your snide remarks and bating comments. It's obvious you're a nitpicking do-gooder who likes to get their nose in everyone's business and tell them how stupid they are like you did to other posters. I'm doing everything I can to control myself and not stoop to your low level so I will end it there.

Please tell me where in the DR you live so I don't mistakenly move close to you someday as you're the exact type of person I was hoping to get away from by living in the DR.
Youre lashing out at me since you realized your definition of freedoms was pretty stupid, eh? Sometimes when you see yourself in the mirror it isnt pretty.

The sad truth of the human condition is that we are slaves of our minds. The tool has become the captor. We are tortured by the past and slaves to a future that, in reality, are only illusions. Freedom is proportional only to our level of mindfulness. Only as keen observers of our dysfunctional minds, can we effect changes to how our life situations are perceived and thus our reactions to them.

Just for the investors out here .. the rents and house sales are prices are dropping faster than a barrel of oil last week..... rents are down 50% almost all the people that are renting are not even paying rents ... as far as house prices I seen a drop original asking price 475 down to 295...

now the time to lock in a two year lease at half the price also offer 6 months in advance ... that usually does the trick .. as far as house wait another month ... you may get it for free...
My friend is house sitting a place , electricity included all free in very nice place until mid January 4 bdrm Gardener pool boy and maid included....

I didn't lash out at you, I merely stated the obvious observations that I saw from your posts. I have lived in the DR since 2007 and love it even though it's not perfect. Now, if you can get over your know it all self for a minute and look at the facts, leave emotions out of it and use common sense here is what's going on here in the DR and the whole world.

This article was printed yesterday and I quote "Early results are eye opening. USC (University of Southern California) and the L.A. (Los Angeles, California) County Department of Health recently released results of their antibody tests, finding that many more people were infected with Covid-19 than they previously thought. According to their results, somewhere between 28 to 55 TIMES more people have the antibody which means they carried the virus".

Similar results were obtained in Northern California by the Stanford University antibody test of an entire town in Northern California which showed the majority of the town infected instead of the small amount of cases which were reported. These results effect everyone in the world including the Dominican Republic as it shows the true danger of this corona virus. Yes, it is bad, yes it kills people and so does cancer, diabetes and a host of other diseases here in the DR. Now for more facts to show how this is being blown way out of proportion here in the DR and around the world.

According to John Hopkins Center for Health Systems, Science and Engineering (google it);
INFECTIONS
Covid 19 : Approximately 3,207,248 cases worldwide which includes the Dominican Republic
INFLUENZA (The Flu/Gripe in DR) - Estimated 1,000,000,000 (1 Billion) cases worldwide including the DR

DEATHS
Covid 19 - Approximately 228,057 deaths worldwide which includes the Dominican Republic as of April 30, 2020
INFLUENZA (The Flu/Gripe in DR) - 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide which includes the DR annually

So, from the above reports and facts common sense shows that the Covid 19 virus is not much different then the common Flu/Gripe which has been killing between 291,000 to 646,000 people worldwide for years and years and years and that's with a vaccine widely available to protect against it, something we do not currently have here in the DR or anywhere else in the world for Covid 19.

Conclusion; it is completely crazy and makes absolutely no sense to shut down the DR's economy and the economies of the world over the Corona Virus when the common flu has been at least as deadly and depending on what numbers come up in any given year, more deadly then this new virus. This "Pandemic" has been created by the news media and politicians of the world for their own agendas and unfortunately believed and followed by less developed countries like the Dominican Republic. I'm very saddened by all this and am truly worried for the future as we are destroying our economy for nothing. The peso will be dramatically devalued along with all world currencies which will affect the people of the Dominican Republic greatly in the years ahead in order to pay for this lunacy.

Alexw, please tell me where you live in the DR so I never mistakenly move there. I will not respond to your posts anymore as I don't have time for people like you and I definitely don't ever want to be near you (and I'm quite sure you feel the same about me). Thankyou.

Watch this and say it's BS:
Hi Dale the Farmer,
Please see my most recent post in response to alexw here on this thread as my response to you. The news media will hunt and hunt and hunt to find the cases that create excitement and hysteria as this is what sells. It's the same worldwide and especially here in the DR. Please read my response to alexw as the facts show the true story no matter how much the news media tries to sensationalize everything.

Alex is just passionate, Blueceo. Calm down and eat some fruit. It's all going to be o.k.
Thanks El Rey, I had a good laugh. I'm passionate too when I see things that are not right and misrepresented. I ate some fruit as you suggested but am still saddened and worried about the future from all this madness. But thanks for the chuckle. I appreciated it.

I actually borrowed the line from Mel Gibson in "Signs"

Don't be a slave to your mind. Sadness is an illusion.

Just like the pandemic that hit the Dominican Republic/world back in the 1900s, there are people who take it seriously, who listen to the scientists and experts, that do their part to make things better. Then, there are people like you.
People who view the world though their limited field of view and think that they know it all. People who make generalizations completely void of nuance, unaware of reality and devoid of basic empathy.
The human condition is one of fascinating intrigue, on one hand we've created a world in which we can detach ourselves from reality, no longer do you need to be the most intelligent, the most cunning, or have any skills in order to survive, maybe this is our ultimate achievement, not being constrained by the whims of nature, evolving past being an apex species, yet here you are, sitting in front of a technological marvel created by scientists and experts, spouting nonsense that would make any medical doctor/immunologist look down on themselves in complete disdain for being part of the same species as you.
I'll end on a positive note and give you some advise, turn off the sensationalist media channels and read some scientific papers and research, inform yourself so that you may be a better citizen, I know you have the time, this pandemic will be here for a while, because again, people like you will undoubtedly make it harder to resolve.
P.S. Prepare yourself, mentally, for the second wave that will likely hit in the last quarter of the calendar year, hopefully by then you've overcome your ignorance.

More food for thought:

The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development has been meeting with various productive sectors to socialize their plans for the gradual opening of economic activities disrupted by COVID-19. In its edition of last Monday Diario Libre published the details of this opening plan that includes five phases. According to sources, the plan would be officially announced next week. The first stage would begin on May 11 with the opening of vehicle dealers, mechanical workshops and small businesses. The second stage would be scheduled to start on June 1, and includes the opening of beauty salons, barber shops, commerce and advertising. However, the business sectors have requested that this opening be brought forward one week so that families can acquire the gifts for Mother's Day to be celebrated on Sunday, May 31, that is, before the proposed date for the opening of the markets. The third stage is scheduled for June 22 and in this period the incremental reactivation of the economy would be contemplated. Also, during this phase the holding of the presidential and congressional elections, scheduled for July 5, is planned. The fourth stage would open travel agencies, hotels and restaurants, starting on August 10, and the fifth stage would include shopping malls, bars, discos and gyms, among others. This week in an interview for Diario Libre, the economy minister, Juan Ariel Jiménez, confirmed that the plan was being worked on, and clarified that the Dominican economy was not completely closed. "In evaluating what the Government has done, the Dominican economy is not completely closed. We allow activity, agriculture, industrial activity, those of the free zones, essential commerce such as supermarkets, pharmacies, mining, "said Jiménez. “So, let's say there is a percentage of economic activity that has never been closed. What has been done is limited. In other words, no more than fifty percent of the workers have been told at the same time. They have to establish hygiene and safety protocols, ”said the official.

Seems to be what was on the government web site before and is now "official" Above is a google translation of: https://m.diariolibre.com/economia/...KJaLfEAESriO-z1BOEx-KvPtGy1Rq1hTQujQlYU7Ww2OI

I have also been following the actual death rates. Not that high. But for some reason people point out the number of actual deaths. Go figure.

I am pretty much in agreement that the actual death rates don't justify what was done.

Anyway, the DR is planning to re-open in steps with the final step on August 10.
