This sounds almost exactly like what happened to a friend of mine that applied for initial residency. This is a lawyer that I knew and even worked with on non-related matters and thought to be a very good lawyer.
It can happen to anyone. My lawyer of 20 years stopped by and asked if I could deposit 50K for a day or two for her to take advantage on a good vehicle buy.
Still waiting after 3 years. She has gotten a ton of work from me and has now lost any more.

Still, when I first came here, the first lawyer that I used she did all my papers and also had a bunch of certificates and had a business page and everything and it went well.
But then a couple of years later when I applied for citizenship and I used the same lawyer, I had a very similar to your current situation.
She told me that after around 2 weeks after the application date I would be summoned for the interview part.
However, I waited several months and nothing. Every time I contacted her, she just said that Migration was working on my application and that she asked about the status every week.
After waiting 1 year, she then told me that the papers had expired and that I would have to apply again.
Through another lawyer that I got into contact with through mutual friends, she found out what had really happened, and basically, that first lawyer hadn't done anything and was just BS me.

So just because someone has a good reputation and you've even had personal experience, doesn't mean that they won't "scam" you at one point.
Migracion does not handle citizenship. You were not going to have a meeting at Migracion. That would have been a clue. Citizenship is done with the Ministry of Interior and Police.

My wife and I did everything for my citizenship aside from getting local documents notarized for my citizenship. No lawyers except for
those Notaries.

Yes you're correct, you just need certificates from migracion, I incorrectly wrote the wrong authority entity..

I think you should get an award for patience, persistence, and perseverance! I don't think many people could do what you did. I know I couldn't have dealt with what you had to do. That would have driven me nuts.

Before you say anything to your lawyer, you really need to call DGM and see where you stand. Otherwise, you could just give the lawyer a good excuse to never return any more of your calls or accept any more appointments.

it's not even about money I am convinced it's tigure culture, they will get paid for the 13th month now - it will be gone by January 2nd. Money is seen as something that has a temporal state here due to a lack of education. it's the education of tigure culture that derives from the barrios and it's like this - nobody is going to screw me I am going to screw them, I will not let someone win over me; when someone is happy I have lost I must strike before they do to maintain my social position and have something to laugh about later, it is part of their culture and I don't think anybody can deny that. It's not isolated to the barrio cause it affects professionals, police, politicians, contractors everything you pair that with how uncomfortable Dominicans get with responsibility and "culpa" then you get this. Even if a person stole from you and you put the responsibility on them they will deny it and shift it away as fast as possible. The same mentality enslaves them to a constant feast or famine with everything here. My wife is Dominican we talk about this every other night - Dominican has an accountability issue and it's culturally deep. it's both psychologically fascinating and the most irritating thing ever at the same time. The only time you win with them over issues like this is over social shame or something to defame the social class they try to maintain that is super fragile, doing this starts a war though cause they are very * 100 socially conscious. My wife has PTSD of growing up in the barrio from people constantly saying " no tiene cualto para comprar" a sa way to damage or get you to buy stuff. Side of Dominican most Gringos don't learn about is the social defamation they do to one another.

Some of you have seen why I never use a lawyer unless I absolutely have to. Others that currently use lawyers all the time will eventually get the point.

I suspect the OP has been victimized.

100% everyone has or will; who resides in this country. We figure out eventually professional doesn't mean much here other than wearing nice clothing and making promises lol.
