Puerto Plata. Still raining. No wind to talk about, too early. I still have windows open. Power is on in the city.

Las Terrenas
Our caretaker called from Las Terrenas - Playa Las Ballenas. Just a little bit of rain, all is fine over there. Home is dry, the roof is still on the home, etc. We have't slept in 3 days and are cautiously optimistic. :>)

The old timers in our area were right: hurricanes bounce off Puerto Rico then kicks it upward into the Atlantic.

Any news of Las Terrenas is appreciated when storm is totally over. Glad it is not as bad as expected. A very close call.

Punta Cana next to nothing. Some rain and winds about 20mph. I have Skydived in worse weather.

Puerto Plata
Puerto Plata at 9.45am. Steady light rain, stiff breeze, sky still surprisingly light. Still people and vehicles in the street, including one intrepid Haitian lady selling toilet paper. Power and internet still on (obviously!). Expecting the storm proper to kick off in about an hour but indications are that there will be nothing physically dangerous. It is just the aftermath I am dreading: no power, internet or city water for how long?

By WhatsApp and phone I have surveyed the country:
Santo Domingo has some breeze and some drizzle.

Punta Cana some rains and breezes.

Coast Ambar has rains on and off with some breeze. A CDN (channel 37) report from Bobo, on the highway between Nagua and Cabrera, reported a "15-20 foot wave wiped out the fishing village." So it seems that there are some rogue waves out there.

Here in Santiago we have some breezes (what might be called "sultry??") and rains on and off.

Mike Fisher? How are things out east??

God bless us, one and all.....

Santo Domingo, cloudy no wind, drizzle and a wonderful cool and fresh air, no traffic in the last half hour, only a tropigas truck passing. Seems some have to work... :)

Let's see if the aftermath gets that bad, I have a feeling it won't as we won't get a direct hit, and reading updates from people who are before us, it still seems calmer than expected. For now we can only wait though.

As of 10am on Thursday, 7 September 2017, flights are resuming at the Punta Cana International Airport, on the east coast of the Dominican Republic. Flights had been suspended due to the passing of Category 5 Hurricane Irma.

Have reports there was some rain and wind gusts in La Romana, but not much to say for Irma.

In Santo Domingo, the storm was not felt. There was a storm at the supermarkets, as people prepared for the worse.

The good news is that the forecasted paths for the country were accurate, giving more confidence in following these. But, and the big but, there are too many variables with a hurricane, so we all need to continue to prepare for the worse and then celebrate the best.

Regarding DR1, I have asked Robert to look into switching server companies if the company in Houston has problems that affect our service.
