Caberete. I just got back. The beach in front of Ocean Dream is mostly gone. Surf up to the retaining wall. From what I can see a lot of beach in front of the Rest. to the east is gone to. There are some trees down in OD. In La Loma. Some trees down. I didn't see any big ones. Some tin flapping. The moto's are already out. Trying to run you over. Things are going back to normal.

The wind really dropped out here in Sosua and the bay has layed down quite a bit. Here is playa Sosua now.

Irma's exit is welcomed.

Ya. It's almost scary how the wind and rain just stopped. The eye is north of Sosua and at it's closest point and I have a slight breeze. Could it be.... a calm before the other half of the storm?

Thanks to everyone on this site (especially MikeFisher) who helped manage my anxiety level here in Canada. It was great to hear a lot of "on the ground reports" of what was actually happening. My wife was watching the CNN/ABC reports and freaking out and I had to walk her through some actually reports from what was happening in Punta Cana (and the rest of the island).

Thanks to everyone who in their posts gave their location so at least I could figure out where everyone was.

There's a huge rain squall coming in from the east, so plenty of places will be drenched again.

I've been peeking at Jose, and it's a scary possibility of a 1-2 punch.

For us here in Sosua the worst is over. There will probably be rain on and off and still some wind for a while depending on how the tail acts, but for us here in Sosua "Irma has left the building"

Even though the worst is over for us here in Sosua there will still be gusts and rain. And walking to the beach I saw many downed power lines so it might not be a great idea to head out just yet. But for us, we dodged the proverbial bullet.

Esperanza and Mao bad flooding. Here in Moncion there has been torrential rain almost all day although around half an hour ago there was no wind and no rain but it is back again with a vengeance.

Cabrera Report....

Just hung up with my house..... wind and trees but no structural damage -- yardwork only & lots of it
My solar panels are intact and the roof and garage

Wind at 50% of previous levels

A 10 ft uva tree uprooted and blew into the next yard
Dogs and humans alive & well.

What a relief!!

As I watched the screens , I saw the eyewall replacement which I am sure eased the attack..
slid by more softly.
T&C will not have it so easy - IMO

and FLA is in real trouble if this strength continues

Thanks to all - espec Fisher - for the updates/support/encouragement

Whew ---wine time..... catching my breath
watched at 2am, 6am.... my remote skills aren't good

More of a 'Touchy-Feely' guy
where is Mike's neighbor ?

Thanks to everyone again. Great team........I have no idea why we were so spared. Rio San Juan and Caberete and Sosua all got something but here in Gaspar Hernandez we got not much more than a few blowing leaves and some rain. Don't get me wrong , I am very grateful we were spared, I heard of only 1 house up on the hills that got basically blown away. We seem to be quite protected somehow. I mean no reports of anything. My neighbour is doing some inside construction replacing a ceiling in a Tinr oof house (the really nice tin roof) and they didn't even bother to stop working. He has a crew in there from SFM . I just don't get it. Everything pointed at very high winds and some got them but not us. Maybe someone can shed some light on it?

MikeFisher, thanks for all your work, you said it a couple of days ago, SD is in for a spanking. Yes we did get our bumbums warmed up. I hope it's over but I still hear Thunder.

The Breeze does feel nice. Sleeping weather.

Thinking it is quit rediculous comparing the hurricane of the century with the little impact. Of course we are happy but this is very odd.

we still hav e agood amount of water hanging south, for the Capital, San pedro and it could even reach over here to me.
but the hard stuf is over.
I love to see the Flat Down Calm Ocean here at the house, beautiful right now, even that i see the next short shower coming in from the SW already close.

if it would have entered the Caribbean Sea it would have very likely extremely bad for the country, even without a direct hit, and at the moment the steering currents would not push a storm in the caribbean Sea from E-W, it would turn it NW'wards.
it is just a thing of position and timeing.
we got it on our North and we got it at the right time, not the highest Tides as we will have them later in the year.

In Los Restauradores it is raining constantly since 1 hour.

Street (corner with Av. Caonabo) is flooded.

Well, in Saint Martin they REALLY don't doubt that this was the hurricane of the century. In fact, they probably wish it will be the last one too.

When was the last time that a hurricane threw cars around as if they were nothing? That's not normal in those storms.

Just think that off the north coast all hell is breaking loose, albeit in the open sea. Otherwise the DR would had been a gigantic Saint Martin.
