I might need to get a DR credit card. Or just use my US ones when needed which I never do any more.

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) announced that, effective June 1, 2025, it will no longer accept cash payments for any of its services or procedures. All transactions must be conducted via credit or debit cards, bank deposits, or through the institution’s official website.

The DGM emphasized that this change aligns with the provisions of Immigration Law No. 285-04 and aims to improve efficiency, security, and speed in service delivery without affecting user experience. Official service fees and penalties will remain unchanged.

Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, Director General of Immigration, explained that the measure is part of broader efforts to ensure strict oversight of public funds and reflects President Luis Abinader’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and anti-corruption in public administration.

Assuming this is for the overstay fee also...........
For those that overstay legally past 30 days on a tourist card, that exit fine payment by cash was already ended, but then it wasn't ..
Oh well, this is the DR. Maybe this edict will seal that once and for all.

One can stay "legally" pass 30 days and then pay a fee? I didn't know that. Thanks.

Awwww, that's not fair! We'll have one less thing to argue about if we can't ask if they take cash at the airport... :)

Not to worry they have a pope to bash for the next couple of years. It will fill out their days while they look at how many planks were reinstalled on the boardwalk up there in expataville.

Why would you have to pay to immigration anything ...? I thought you were resident or was it citizen, can't remember...

Not to worry as a friend of mine paid cash for his overstay fee a few weeks ago at POP, so I will be happy to carry on with the argument.

Ah. Good question. The payment I might have to make in the future by credit card to Migracion would be to renew my Dominican Passport as a naturalized citizen.

Last I heard that can only be done in Santo Domingo because they don't trust other offices to renew naturalized citizens passports, so that greatly reduces my odds of getting that done unless that changes so I can do it in Puerto Plata. But you never know. I might have a reason as the US pisses off other countries and makes it harder for those with US passports to visit them.

It is good to see that paying the exit fines, yes for those ILLEGAL over 30 day tourist card overstays, will probably always be able to be done using cash despite any rule ever made that it can be done only with plastic. And so it goes.

No problem for US passport holders visiting any country so far, and I doubt it will be in our life time. Problem is other way round at the moment, for visiting US ...!

Congrads on your DR passport, you are still going capital letters with illegal, still on crusade to make all long term visitors to DR become resident and citizen after all these years...! I gestimate 90% of all foreigners (staying over 30 days) are illegal according to your definition... (love to see correct stats though ) , but let's move on...! 👍🏻

  • Brazilian authorities have announced that United States citizens will require a visa beginning April 10, 2025. United States citizens will be able to obtain visas online.
For a Dominican no visa is required for Brazil

All foreigners who enter the DR on a tourist card and stay past 30 days are illegal. That is a simple fact, not "my definition" . No lawyer will disagree with the fact that those people are illegal in the DR. Why should I change my position? I never will on illegals.

I know your position, I was just a bit concerned about the use of capital letters...! 😉

Have a good time in Brazil, when are you going...? Be careful not overstay your visa there, that's where they properly deal with "illegals", unlike DR... 😎

I have to talk my wife into going. She is unsure about visiting anywhere in South America..

I didn't use CAPS, by the way.
