Marisol Mackenzie / A Metro y Medio / Ana Mercy Otañez
A woman who worked with a contractor cleaning the facilities of Barrick Gold in Sanchez Ramirez province is today a heavy-duty equipment driver. A native of Cotui, she is the 15th of 17 brothers and sisters. She was a single mother who needed a better job and took the challenge to get trained. She found openings in Barrick to advance, and encouragement from fellow male equipment drivers. Today, she is the only woman certified to Hitachi 3,600 excavator used in mining operations.
