The National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (Intrant) announced seniors will now pay then same as those under 65 years of age. Effective on 13 November 2024, seniors will pay a reduced rate of RD$950 for the renewal but will have to renew every two years.

Seniors of 65+ are required to undergo a driving evaluation every two years. The first-time issuance of licenses for seniors in these categories will cost RD$1,250.

The Intrant had fallen under much criticism when requiring seniors to pay RD$1,900 to renew their driver’s license, but reducing the validity to two years.

After El Nacional and Listin Diario broke the story, the President himself said he would not pay the new fees and ordered it to be revoked.
