I would love to see a more open public areas on the beach. maybe a set up like boca chica ,sosua ,cabarete with dining along the beach and a walkway. of course make it family friendly with mid to upscale, breakfast and drinks only accommodations. create a charge for public day pass use.

i know its a pipe dream ,but this concept is doable.

when we visit the beach, we enjoy spending the day on the strip and paying for meals, fresh fruit, frias, and do so pretty cheaply, off of that dominican price point. we miss out on this type of beach day locked up in an all inclusive, no quipes and chicharones or real sancocho in the all inclusive meng.

in puerto plata, they are giving away rooms, you can book for $70 PER DAY at the other playa dorada resorts. but the beach over there is no punta cana.

lets see if sunscape will keep that resort affordable..

That's already happening to an extent. The hitch is that it's being priced for gringos, not locals. One of the last truly open stretches in Bavaro is in Bibijagua. El Cortecito has been closed off to cars by the owners of Capitan Cooks, and the guards over near Soles try to make you leave an ID when going to the public beach. When I start pushing back in ****-poor Spanish they always back down, but someone who's a local might well get turned away if they don't comply.

Them gringo prices do keep me away from cabarete, along with the busy beach. One thing the NC has going are the live music events, with local pricing.

If it was not for the sticky enviorment of boca chica and sosua, i would visit more often. For this reason i stick with bayahibe. I guess the powers that be will keep punta cana in gringo pricing.

Still love the cortecitos location! Vista sol is the only reasonably priced place to be.

I doubt 5 star

Barcelo Playa Dorada is definitely in need of a major facelift. Turning into a 5 a Star will be difficult, however it is now owned by a US company who will cater primarily to US clients who are more demanding. If the rumour about a $105 US a day minimum AI is true, it better hit the mark, otherwise, they won't be in business long.
